Well I've been working on this since yesterday. I finally have been able to get back into Windows developing (thanks to Parallels :] which is amazing).
I threw together this little crappy teaser trailer thing: http://dentafrice.com/post/93892017/little-tehupload-thing-i-put-together-i-know-its
The major changes are really on the backend side of things, the way things are handled.
-----------------------------
1. You must now be a member of TehUpload to use the application. All it requires is simply signing up for an account.
It took me a while to decide if I wanted to do this or not, but to achieve my goal of more site-application integration, it had to be done.
This is displayed the first time you use it.

2. Percents (file progress) has now been added to the application, in the main window.. at the bottom.

3. The hotkeys still remain a popular feature for the users.
4. The speed has improved majorly, as well as the "null exception" error which kept a lot of users from being able to proceed.
5. I've cut the file size down to almost half a megabyte.
There's going to be more coming soon. This is just for right now.
I might need a few people to test it soon.
Thanks!

Wow, that looks good. The drag over a window feature I know I'd use a lot.

Yeah the select area feature is in the current version.
You can also "hide" the application, down to your notification tray (TU icon), and press Ctrl+Alt+A and it automatically opens the select area window (among other hotkeys).

The video looks quite good.. It looks like you tried to go for a professional video (like one that Apple/Sony/Nintendo) use??
I just think you should change the last font, its a tad hard to read - haha!
But, the app looks good :)
edit: What about a 'trial' part, where you can upload say 10 pictures and then you have to register to use it? (registering is still free obviously)

Well on the site you can upload as many as you want, free, without registering.
The thing is, a lot of this new application will be "based" around accounts. :P So it'd be a bit difficult to code in a trial system, if you know what I mean?

What if you have a database where when you upload it says "Guest" and then the ip of the guest and if it reaches 10 or something, they have to login?

Yeah, that's easy enough, but then you get down to the application level, that at the splash checks if there are user details or not. So then you'd have multiple calls to the server to see if they have any "hits" left.

Fair enough!!
You could use a PHP page where it selects the IP from the database. (The url could be something like blal.com/checkip.php?ip=133.768.345)

Yeah, I use a lot of verifications like that, but it always comes down to the user. He could have a dynamic IP that changes everytime he logs on to the internet, meaning his hits reset everyday ;P
Appids can be easily spoofed through host files that reroute things and return false verifications.

That is true... But i still think as a user who is using this application for the first time, (or any as a matter of fact) I don't want to sign up just to upload a picture or two.. :(

Could make it if mac id uploaded 10 things then he can't again till registering instead of using ip's or what about cookies ?

You can always clear cookies ;)

But im sure cookies would be a better idea than IP, plus i think i'd rather register than clear cookies i hate clearing cookies !!!

A user is not going to go through the process of installing the application, if all they are going to do is take a screenshot or two.. they would just use the site/a site for that.

Cookies don't go with applications, that's online things ;)

Some parents (maybe my mums boyfriend??) dont like you to store internet data on the computer? Everytime you use his PC, you have to click "clear internet data"...

Either way, what's the point of downloading and installing an application, if you're not willing to take maybe 30 seconds to register an account? :P

I prefer to not make accounts.. simply because its a hassle if you need to remember all these different passwords...
And also, if you use Adobe programs, did you make an account :P

No, but are those programs uploading to an online web hosting service, that allows you to keep track of your files? No.
But you do realize when you download an Adobe product, you have to have an account ;)

No, I mean they require you to have an Adobe Online account to download a file from their site ;P Not registration when you install it.

Just added a little message from server feature, allows us to send your application messages from the server. Could be useful for maintenance times, etc.. without filling up your inbox.
I know I put is instead of us in the message, typo ;P

I've scrapped the server message idea.
New one, from Protege, that I just finished.

You can now go in Windows explorer, click an image.. copy it (Ctrl + C) and press the clipboard hotkey.. (Ctrl + Alt + C) to upload :]
Example: http://screencast.com/t/gs50t736
Do it so if your on an image on the web just press a hotkey and it sends the URL of the browser to tehupload and it copys that image.
That might be hard, but you could probably do it on firefox with a plugin.
Sorry for a crap idea :)
Also does that just upload the image on the clipboard? If yes, you can also upload your photoshop creations without saving them, by copying merged (Ctrl+Alt+C)... Oh wait. You cant. Maybe you could if you change the hotkey, though.

You could just right click on the image, copy, and press Ctrl+Alt+C (clipboard) or Ctrl+Alt+F (no prompts) and it will upload it for you.. :P

Yeah, good idea, but what about the photoshop idea? Well, you could do edit > copy merged, but for those people who want to use the shortkey or those who use photoshop and tehupload.
Also, any ideas if i get to beta test :P?
