I really have no idea where to start so I will give you some idea of what I am looking for if anyone has any idea if/where I could get something like this from or some examples.

- 120gb+ HD
- 2gb+ RAM
- 19''+ monitor
- Good graphics card
- XP/Vista home premium
- Other peripherals not really needed i.e. printer, keyboard etc.
- Around £300>£400, willing to go a little higher.

Thanks!

Edit; http://www.comet.co.uk/shopcomet/product/521957/ACER-ASX3200-4050

The computer seems good but I dont like the screen much. Thoughts on computer and alternatives for monitor??

My Granddad bought a similar computer from Comet not long ago, it's an alright machine for the price and well-built but for good graphics sadly not.

It doesn't include a graphics card but rather poor built-in graphics and because it's such a small case you'd never get a graphics card inside it either if you ever came to upgrade it.

Have you any other alternatives to it? or any other makes which are good and have potential to upgradel later.

That seems alright, it's right on the edge of your £400 budget but it's a pretty good computer with okay graphics and the ability to add a graphics card to it later on. You'd need to upgrade it's 300W to a 400W PSU if you want to add a graphics card though, this is easy to do and only costs about £30 for a good one.

I bought a PC from TESCO for christmas (bought it in January though).

Here's the spec:

Yes, it is from gametracker

It's Vista Premium btw.

Acer Aspire M3201 is the model number.
More infos (http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q=aspire+m3201&btnG=Google+Search&aq=f&oq=)

It cost me £260 thanks to the VAT cut AND obviously earned me 260 clubcard points.

I bought a monitor recently from ebuyer.com which was £60 + free delivery.

A semi-reasonable graphics card would be about another £60 - gonna get one in a bit.

Still falls under your budget.

Its NOT on the tesco website and never has been. What I recommend is that you go to the store and see what they have. Try a tesco EXTRA in your area since they should have a few machines. Good luck!

Tesco are good for this sort of thing like TM said, another Supermarket worth trying is Aldi. You may laugh at this but Aldi have a deal with Medeon to sell their computers and they do some pretty good stuff, the Aldi website is poor so I can't find them on there but it's worth checking instore as there's some bargains to be had.

I would say just build your own computer most of the time its cheaper. and you can get what you like.

I'd highly recommend waiting until Microsoft are giving away free upgrades to windows 7, should be in a few months if it's released at the end of the year. Its not worth being stuck with vista when you can get 7 for free.

They did it with Vista a while before it came out, mine came with it. They install XP on it and when Vista was released they send you a free disc; it helps shift people on from the old OS (in theory, shame Vista was worse than XP). They're going to do the same with 7, from July 1st according to this article (heard it from cnet too):

Well I'm not buying it now cause I still gotta save its going to be about another 3 months. I want to see now what I can get and what its going to cost.

Alex do you think there will be more publicity about Windows 7?

Windows 7 is going to be the next OS from Microsoft. From what I seen and heard by many people that its much better then the current "Vista" OS. Good luck in finding a new computer Joe :)
