How was your first time flying?

I was on my way to Alcudia, Spain.
We was sitting in out seats, first time flying and I picked the window. (Big mistake)
We watched the screen thing at the front, safety procedures etc, the flight attendant came round to check our seat belts. I remember the plane backing out of the 'parking bay,' then turning the corner to go on the runway, then BANG the engines kicked in and we was nearly hitting 200 MPH down the Luton airport runway, I was bricking it never flown before, never imagined I would. (Typical English boy, English holidays before, Northfork 2 hour drive say.) Then the nose lifted and up we went, at this point I was scared no harm in admitting it, I'd never been on an aeroplane before! Everytime it was leveling out my head was banging! Light headed, and pains going all through my head! Then it turned and before you knew it, we was hitting nearly 9,000 feet. When I was brave enough to look out of the window, or even turn my head, I would get massive headrush and go really light headed then I'd have to look straight foward and wait for it to go.
I remember looking out at one point, and seeing snow capped mountains, we were just passing France. I couldn't beleive it, then not long I heard over the radio ''This is the pilot etc, cruising at 10,500 FT at 530 MPH we'll hit Spanish soil in just under an hour and a half'' I was ecstatic! At this point my ears had already popped and I'd chewed on a whole pack of Polo's.
Then the food came round, it stunk the whole cabin out, and I didn't think I could eat it. Before I knew it, time had passed and we was near Spain! We had to buckle up, and prepare for landing. I remember the plane slowing down, and the engines cutting out for about 30 seconds at a time, and getting slower, and slower. Then I can remember looking out the window and checking out the islands undernieth us, the docks all along the coast, it was great! After about 20 minuits, the plane touched down, and I was looking foward to my first holiday abroad. Stepping out of the aeroplane was great, the heat just hit you! (This was in October, last year! So in England, it wasn't the warmest of places.) But Spain was still hitting 25-30 C it was great!
I was so releived that the flight was over, I hated it, continuous light headed feeling where the pressure was messing with my ears and head, the food was stinking and I couldn't take it any longer, I didn't even get up to go for a leak, I was afraid I would fall over and make myself look an idiot!

Had a wicked holiday, I really would love to go back again, the hotel was great!

Coming home was much better, I had no problems atall, it was so wierd, just the occasional light headedness, but my Mum taught me that if I took in deep breathes when I feel light headed it would go away, and it did! We was just crossing the channel, and we was so high up, I could see the outline of England, it was amazing!
I was looking at the coastline and everything. We soon came over London, and I was taking pictures of the London eye all the way down there in the freezing cold, before I knew it, we was touching down and ready to get off the plane. Sumbrero on head, I trotted down the stairs and I was freezing then off home I went. I loved flying on the way home, it was wierd how at first I hated it, and I was so worried about going home (the flight) and then I got on the plane, we took off and I was having so much fun! (Thought this time, I did sit in the middle seat, so I could still look out of the window and I could be nosey at what the flight attendants were doing.) I watched The Simpsons and Top gear, and the time 'flew' by.

So that was my first time flying, I know you're probably gonna' open this thread and think ''woah, there's no way I'm reading that'' but I think it's quite interesting! I'm gonna' post it up as a blog aswell, so check it out if you get bored! Please no slate posts, I'm just trying to give the people that havn't flown before, what it's like. Thanks for reading.
Dan. :D

It's great honestly, I loved it!

And yeah, my ears pop on the way down so much, that I can't here barely anything, then it wears off when I'm walking through the airport.
But they still pop at take-off aswell, throught the flight isn't so bad, but it gave me a bit of earache. It's wierd not being able to hear anyone on the way down. :D

I cant remember my first. Ive flown almost every year for 15 years. My mum does however remind me that when i was younger i would cry on take off and landing but i would sleep for the whole flight xD
I dont mind planes. I still have all the doubts though. I know what some of the buttons in the cockpit are too incase we land in water or something lmao.

I was 12 on a trip to Taiwan.

I remember feeling so excited, I was jumping along the departure hall. I remember entering the plane and thinking "Oh my goodness, I am in an ACTUAL plane for the first time!" Heh, I could not wait to take off, it was a great experience!

I was taken by surprise when we were gaining speed on the runway; I never expected it. I luckily took the seat by the window and I remember thinking how everything looked so tiny and wondered if whatever I saw was real or just a fake plasticine model of the world.

Eventually, at a level where i could only see clouds and more clouds, my excitement died down. It was a 4-hour flight and I got bored pretty quickly. :P

I just can't imagine 12 years with out leaving a city but I guess it's common in Singapore.

I loved my first flight, the speed was just so immense and it felt like minutes after taking off from Gatwick that we were over Brighton. Flying over Corsica and Sardinia was rather amazing, the mountains were beautiful and went on for ages. The culture change in Tunisia was good too, although just how I thought it would be, Arab cities are rather amazing.

My first time flying and basically, the only time I ever went on holiday was when I was 10, 3 years ago -.-. Well, I loved it! It was my first flight ever and it was 8 hours long and we went to the Caribbean from London! I loved the whole journey! We got up at 2AM! It was awesome! Then we spent 4 hours in a taxi ging to London, I got a bit bored in the car, well what'd you expect it's flipping boring.. -.- anyway, in the airport, I loved it too! Going through all the things that go bleep! I loved it! Every second! I loved the part where we put all our crap in a box and it goes thru an x-ray and the alarm went off when I walked thru :S

We think it was because I was wearing a hat & a chain belt.. But I loved the plan I cried when I got off cos I thought the plane was crashing, but it didn't the steps were just broken so we got to jump off down the slide thing (we had steps because it was a fairly poor country, Antigua) and I loved it!

I love planes... nneeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeow!

No airline or commander would authorise the use of EMERGENCY evacuation slides simply because an aircrafts internal steps where unserviceable. Steps would be found at the airport and brought to the aircraft for passengers to disembark.

Emergency evacuation slides to exactly what they say, allow passengers to evacuate in an emergency.

I don't think you realise just how much money them slides cost...

Lol I've flown loads and loads but one year when we went to greace, here we all are turning up at this aircraft which literelly looked like it'll been made out of tape and cardboard. I knew something wasn't right anyway, we took off and we didn't go very high at all and everybody was just looking around at eachother. We didn't get any higher we couldn't of been more than a couple of hundred feet up, anyway then the captain was like "Hi there's a problem with one the engines we're going to have to make an emergancy landing back at the same airport" You should of seen everybodys faces :l But obviously they can't land on a full tank becuz the plane would of exploded so we had to circle round for 2 hours to dump the fuel. I honestly thought I was going to die, the landing was awful and so bumpy and when we got down all firetrucks surrounded us. THEN we had to get back on the same plane after a 12 hour delay everybody was going effing mental!!!!!!

OMG IT WAS THAT PLANE! *CRYZZZ*

I can't remember my first time flying ... I always get slightly nervous/excited in the airport before though part of this is because I'm slightly paranoid and am constantly thinking of the 'what ifs' I won't go on any further in this side of things because I don't wanna put you off flying :P but the other half is excited about my holiday this balances out perfectly so I'm not one of this people who burst into tears when going on a plane I just get on find my seat once the plane has taken off I'm perfect fine :) If the flight is longer than two hours I'd suggest taking a book, music or PSP/DS or something because there isn't much to do other than look at the clouds :)

the fact that you can plummet some thirty thousand feet in a fire of death and distruction is the thought on many peoples minds, so many things can go wrong. what like? i hear you ask anxiously..

well simple things like a bird flying into the engine causing all human life on board to die in a crash, it's happened and it's not uncommon.

you are always naturaly weary on your first flight, i was, don't worry.

a very perfect example of what happens during a birdstrike at take off. professionalism and well-trained pilots are what prevent such disaster.

erm no not really the plane can still fly with one engine.

granted it would descend at a higher descent rate per minute than standard descents, due to the nature of the situation, the gravitational force when it descends would give it enough speed to maintain a normal approach, even with one engine. engines on a heavy jet (such as boeings, airbuses) have to be certified to be able to keep the plane airborne. a typical landing speed for a big-ish jet would be about 140 knots (V2+10 for those who know :D). one engine can maintain 160 knots (:

i know what im talking about haha. sorry if none of that made sense. im watching the football game.

The fact that you can but very rarely - It's exactly the same as crossing a road imo, you could be crushed by a bus and then be trapped in a fire of death - I just don't understand how one can be scared of flying.

A bird strike is hardly anything - Nothing to worry about, nor is a engine faliure - Even a double engine faliure wouldn't be a major disaster because aircraft can and have landed after several hundred miles with no power at all. It is uncommon - The only reason plane crashes are on the news is because the amount of people that die in them, now I agree there are 1 or 2 a month - But how many car crashes are there a day? How many people die on the worlds roads everyday? - I rest my case.

uhmmmm yeah, it is, lol. there are thousands and thousands of flights every day in the united states alone, its actually quite remarkable the very little amount of plane crashes there are. you are far more likely to die in a car crash on your way to the airport than you are in a plane crash.

I just don't understand how one can be scared of flying.

The reason that I'm scared of flying is because if something does happen, then there's nothing you can do. You're thousands of feet in the air, and there'd be no rescue.

Although I do know that it's rare that something would go wrong, and even if something did go wrong, the pilot might still be able to land the plane, it's still a scary thought (for me).

But if your in the back seat of a car and something goes wrong, you can't really do anything?

Thousands of feet in the air is a good thing because they're is more time :)

Pilots do it day in day out and they're trained for emergencies every 6 months, if they fail to land successfully in a simulator during an emergency then they will not be allowed to operate the real thing.

Your honestly really safe when your onboard an aircraft, you will probarbly go your entire life without ever having anything unusual happen to you.

Apart from turbulance, which is scary, but not exactly life threatening. :D

Turbulence is the best part of a flight :(

Especially on final :D

I hate turbelence, and I hate take-offs.. and I hate landings.

I pretty much hate anytime the plane shakes.

fly through a thunder & lightening storm at 2 in the morning from paris-luton where the cloud base is at around 1500ft... then tell me that its the best part of the flight.

That sounds good to me!

Try overflying a tornado with severe turbulence being reported at all levels, that's fun too :)

4 hours of pure turbulence and airpockets, now that was a great flight. Shame it smoothed out when crossing the Atlantic :(

It certainly is.

Maybe not if you have a fear of flying, though.

Dan. :D

Seems weird reading this as I've flown quite a lot of times, but It does bring back memories of the time when I first flew. I was kind of little so I didn't know what was going on. The only problem I have with flying now is my ears, theres nothing wrong with them but it's just that they get soooo painfull at times. Anyway nice post. :)
