It's because of the place you are downoading from, it's ussually about 6 times less so it's okay. 900KBS is Mega fast anyway. I only get 200KBS MAX, its ussually around 150 kbs.

It's because these speedtest sites and your broadband supplier work in bits, whereas your download speed in your browser is measured in bytes.
As there's 8 bits to a byte, divide your speedtest result by 8 to see what speeds you're really going to be downloading at.

I would post a current speedtest but it seems the new speedtest has skewed the results completely, giving me over 500ms ping on every server apart from london and no greater than 24mbit speed.

That's something to do with your line if your on cable. Unless you're downloading loads of torrents or iPlayer, then your speed shouldn't be capped. Call up their helpline and complain, they'll send out an engineer.

It's because it's a Sunday. Virgin media is always slower on a Sunday because of home user traffic.

Saying that, mine is fairly normal today. 10mb/s Virgin Media L package. Ping is decent 'cos I'm wired to router, wireless suxorz.

Wireless is way less reliable compared with ethernet. Wireless cuts out randomly and the speed can change when you move your body???

Stick with ethernet it's way less hassle.

It depends how far away for your router you are I think. I am about 10 Metres aways and it's really bad.

I had wireless, I was getting about 6/7mb. I got wired and now I'm getting 9mb+ so it does make a difference.

I was also getting max speeds of about 400kb/s on Rapidshare, I can hit 1.2mb/s now..

Customer Feedback?? That's when a customer gives feedback about a good or service not seeing a company director come onto a children's forum and saying hi. Technically mostly any of us are customers as we do not pay the bill nor did we physically sign up for it, our parents did.

I would post a current speedtest but it seems the new speedtest has skewed the results completely, giving me over 500ms ping on every server apart from london and no greater than 24mbit speed.

Here's a recent download though for those inclined to know:

What are you using to download films their I want to get it :P

I'm on the 50MB's package as well and want to take advantage of it :)

Im in wireless as I have to be. If you want come to my house and try and trail a Ethernet cable 2 floors up to the loft when the router is in the kitchen. I'm on Wireless G at the moment with only 2 bars of signal, hoping to upgrade to Wireless-N which my router can handle.

Lucky sod. Our phone line was installed in prehistoric times, so although we have the potential to sync at 18Mbps with our distance from the exchange and line attenuation we only get between 12-15.5Mbps depending on the mood of the line. It's currently Bandwidth (Up/Down) [kbps/kbps]: 1,287 / 12,784 which is strange as it usually syncs at around 14-15 in the morning and then randomly decides to disconnect sometime late afternoon and syncs back at around 12-13 on reconnection.

What does the test socket do?

You plug your modem directly in to it and you are connected straight in to the phone line. No extra devices or wiring in-between.

I tried using Speed.io as a second source, but the given results are way screwed. The Speed.io FAQs imply that it will only work with connections up to 50 mb/s... and there isn't much information elsewhere on the site because it's a bit... bare. Can anyone verify this is indeed the case? :eusa_thin
