HxF United's 2008/09 campaign is up and running, and the latest news involving that season will be posted in this thread. We began with July.

July Preview: July was the opening month of the 2008/09 season, and it was a chance for the team to come together and begin our push for Coca Cola League 1. Dispite our ambitions, the media have predicted us to finish 21st in the league. As you can imagine, I wasn't best pleased. So the team set out to show the world what HxF United were all about, as they kicked off with 5 pre-season friendlies in July.

The first job of the new season was to find out who we'd be taking on in the Carling Cup 1st Round. In a competition that has been full of suprises in the last few years, we are hoping to provide another one as we were drawn against one of the strongest teams in the draw - Championship side Bristol City.

In our first pre-season friendly of the 2008/09 season we stormed to victory in a 7-0 romp over lower league Hednesford. Matty Hurst gave the fans something to sing about with a hat-trick, meanwhilst captain Adam Rose provided an inspirational performance, managing to grab 2 goals which added to his 1 assist. Dikicacazki impressed with some fast footwork, which in the end led to him bagging 2 goals aswell. A perfect start to the season.

Another brilliant performance earnt us a big 1-0 victory over League 1 side Stockport County. Another fantastic goal by captain Adam Rose, who is getting into the routine of CB one half and LM the other, gave us the victory and also handed Rose his 3rd goal in 2 games. However the victory came at a price with the news that striker Andy Juarez will be out for between 5-6 months with a torn calf muscle. Hopefully he has a speedy recovery. On a side note, I'd like to point out that on the same day as our triumph Bury picked up a shock 2-1 win over Manchester City at Gigg Lane. United striker Matty Hurst won't be best pleased with the news.

We followed up our sensational victory over Stockport with a shock 1-1 draw away to Barrow. Dikicacazki gave us the lead in the 8th minute which looked like it would be the goal that would start the rampage - but instead we crumbled and in the 2nd half non-league Barrow got a deserved equaliser through Oli Clarke. The goal also signalled the first time that we had conceded in our first 3 games.

We got back to winning ways in fantastic fashion - with a 5-0 beating of non-league Bedford. Matty Hurst ended his 2 game goaless streak in tremendous fashion with a hat-trick. It was also pleasing to see the midfield duo of Jake James & Cody Wharton getting on the scoresheet, as we completed the rout with only 32 minutes gone. There was a worrying sign towards the end of the game as hat-trick hero Hurst went off injured, however his gashed arm will only keep him out for a maximum of 6 days.

The news just before the game that Tim Sills and Frank Sinclair had both signed for HxF United lifted the United fans, and it spurred them on to an impressive 5-1 victory over Portadown. United wore their snazzy blue & black away kit for the first time, and it looked like the kit was a lucky charm as captain Rose once again provided an impressive performance and capped it with 2 goals and a MOTM award, meanwhilst Thomas, Manetti and substitute Dikicacazki also got on the scoresheet.

Due to the high amount of injuries surrounding the United first team Kettle brought in 2 new faces in the shape of Torquay United striker Tim Sills and Lincoln City Player/Coach Frank Sinclair. The fans were seemingly happy with these buys. However United were dissapointed that Celtic winger Pat McCourt rejected a loan move to The Hatters, dispite the Scottish club accepting the offer. Also Kelvin Etuhu & Stuart Duff both rejected moves to United dispite, once again, their clubs accepting the offers.

Captain Adam Rose & goal machine Matty Hurst were the best performers in July, picking up 11 goals between them. However in the assists charts it was Lucas Roberts who impressed, with a fantastic 7 assists in 5 games.

FACT: The two Adams, Rose & Wootten, were the only 2 players who played every minute of all of United's 5 games in July.

July Review
All in all, July was a very succesful month for HxF United, as they picked up 4 wins, 1 draw, 0 losses, scored 19 goals and only conceded 2.
2 Good, 2 Bad
2 Good - Matty Hurst (6 goals in 4 apps) & 1-0 win vs Stockport (victory over team in higher league)
2 Bad - Andy Juarez (out for 5-6 months with torn calf muscle) & 1-1 draw vs Barrow (dissapointing draw against non-league team)

What's to come in August?
Next month HabboxForum United's season really kicks off as they face 2 tricky games at home against Port Vale in the league, then Championship side Bristol City in the Carling Cup 1st Round. However before this United face one final pre-season obstacle, in the shape of Championship side Coventry City at Wembley. United complete the month with 3 tricky league games against Rochdale, Rotherham & Shrewsbury.

It was a breakaway goal really, we caught the opposition napping and you beat the offside trap to score :P. Um well I could try you in midfield I just put you there and your circle was kind of a greeny colour and not red/yellow so yeah I think you'd be fine in midfield if that's the position your suggesting.

I don't believe we should sack him, inconstant if you ask me. Not good for on the pitch or off it. If two managers can't last for over a season then what will the players feel.

Sorry for delay guys but my mum has totally pissed me off.
I nearly finished the update and I c+ped it and everything, I tell her not to go off it but oh she does so I lose it all and also, this is a spoiler, we beat Rochdale 3-2 with Wright, James & Sock scoring (2-0 down aswell, James goal was last minute) and she ******* closed FM.
So annoyed.

August Preview: August marked the start of the competitive season for United, as they faced 4 tough league matches in August aswell as 2 exciting games against Championship opposition to look forward to. It was safe to say that August was going to be quite an eventful month.

Even though we were the best side throughout the game it wasn't enough as we were undone by Championship side Coventry City at Wembley. An early goal from midfield maestro Cody Wharton gave us hope but a couple of errors in the back 4 allowed Coventry to pounce twice before half time with goals from Beuzelin and Morrison, which sealed the victory for the Sky Blues in London. It got worse as Adam Rose was ruled out for 2-4 weeks with a bad groin strain.

Our league campaign got off to a flyer as we ran out 3-1 winners against Port Vale at Wembley. New signing Tim Sills gave us the lead with an impressive strike before Louis Dodds equalised for the visitors 5 minutes later. 15 minutes before the break Welshman Danuel Manetti gave United the lead once more with a fantastic header. United were getting nervy before Tim Sills secured the victory 15 minutes from time with a Cristiano Ronaldoesque header as he guided the ball into the top right hand corner of the net. The victory gets United off to the best possible start for their 2008/09 promotion push.

United's hopes of an upset against Championship side Bristol City were killed after they lost 2-1 at Wembley. Nicky Maynard gave the visitors the lead 5 minutes in before in-form winger Lucas Roberts struck back just 3 minutes later. The 3rd and final goal of the match came 5 minutes before half time as a David Noble thunderbolt was enough to send out the fighting Hatters.


That's just the first half of the month, but the 2nd half will be coming later as I knew you were getting impaitent so I thought I'd show you the 1st half now and the 2nd later.

Dispite battling hard the ask was just too much for United as they fell to their 3rd loss in 4 games, this time losing 2-1 against Rochdale at Spotland. Kettle said his side battled hard til the end, as in the original game they won 3-2 after coming from 2-0 down at H.T. Anyway, Chris Dagnall gave Rochdale an early lead in the 8th minute until 5 minutes before half time when young striker Jay Thomas equalised, causing the visiting fans to erupt. However 5 minutes after half time Dagnall scored his 2nd and what proved to be the winner from close range, to end United's hopes of winning back to back league games.

Thanks to brave defending throughout most of the game United managed to come away from Wembley with a point intact after their clash with Rotherham, dispite nearly winning it in the dieing seconds through striker Matty Hurst. The game was dull with not many chances at either end, but after the break United came out a stronger side than they were in the first half and created a number of chances, however they were unable to convert them. Adam Brown limped off injured in the 59th minute, looking like quite a serious injury, however nothing was to come of it after the game. In the final seconds of the game Cody Wharton threaded a ball through to Matty Hurst who beat the offside trap, was 1 on 1 with the keeper but was unable to turn the chance into a goal as his shot was impressively by the Rotherham keeper, who had to dive down to his left to stop the shot.

United completed the month from hell by losing 2-1 to league leaders Shrewsbury at the Prostar Stadium. Richard Walker scored a penalty 3 minutes before half time for The Shrews (wasn't a penalty, trust me) and in the 82nd minute Walker looked to of sealed the victory with a breakaway goal. August Review
August was a month to forget for HxF United and manager Harry Kettle, having won 1, drawn 1, lost 4, scored 7 and conceded 9 goals.
2 Good, 2 Bad
2 Good - Tim Sills (2 goals in 5 appearances since arriving at United, he's been a great signing) & Lucas Roberts (1 goal in 5 appearances, he's been in great form on the wing)
2 Bad - Matty Hurst (1 goal in 5 appearances, his form and confidence has dropped dramatically since pre-season) & Adam Rose (out for 2-4 weeks with a bad groin strain, his injury has been a huge reason as to why our form has dipped)

What's to come in September?
The Hatters face a run of 4 straight league games as they look to build their way back up to the top of Coca Cola League 2. They take on Exeter at home, before back to back away games against Brentford and Chester. United finish the month at Wembley where they host Bradford City.

September Preview: After the dissapointment of August, United were in need of a much more improved month as they went into September knowing that they faced 4 tough league matches in September.

First things first in September, the draw for the 2nd Round of the Johnstone's Paint Trophy, a trophy which The Hatters will feel they can excel in. However if they wish to progress further in the competition they'll have to do it the hard way, after being paired with one of the toughest sides in the draw (again) League 1 promotion pushers Millwall.

Dispite dominating for most of the match United fans left Wembley frustrated as they only managed to pick up a point in a 0-0 draw.

We went down 3-1 to promotion chasing Brentford, however it could of been so very different if youngster Cody Wharton equalised from the penalty spot in the early stages of the first half. Brentford raced into a 3-0 lead with 29 minutes gone and once again, dispite our dominance in possession, we were unable to get the ball in the back of the net. However with 11 minutes to go striker Tim Sills gave us some hope, as he leathered the ball into the back of the net with a fantastic strike. Unfortunately we weren't able to get anything out of the game, much to the dissapointment of manager Harry Kettle.

Another bad day at the office for The Hatters as they once again failed to turn their chances into goals in a 0-0 draw with Chester.

The Hatters broke their 7 game winless streak in the league with an emphatic victory over play-off hopefuls Bradford City. Striker Nicky Forster gave United a shock lead in the 9th minute with a poacher's finish from close range. 3 minutes before the break, all of United's pressure and pushing for a 2nd goal finally payed off as midfield maestro Jake James tapped in from 4 yards to give us a 2-0 advantage going in to the break. Around 5 minutes after the interval fan favourite Matty Hurst grabbed only his 2nd league goal of the season, with a superb volley from just inside the area. The victory will give Kettle's side new hope that their promotion dreams can become a reality.

Dispite a couple of frustrating draws, September was a big improvement on August, with 1 win, 2 draws, 1 loss, 4 goals scored and 3 conceded.

2 Good, 2 Bad
2 Good - Jake James (the midfielder provided some brilliant performances inSeptember) & 3-0 win vs Bradford (a big win over a promotion chasing side)
2 Bad - Cody Wharton (his performances were poor in September and he missed a crucial penalty against Brentford) & 0-0 draw vs Exeter (a dissapointing draw considering the amount of good chances we created)

What's to come in October?
October is going to be an important month in The Hatters' season, as they face 7 grueling games in the space of a month. First off they host Luton Town at Wembley before taking on Millwall in the Johnstone's Paint Trophy 2nd Round. Then comes a run of 4 league games in a fortnight as we take on automatic promotion chasing Gillingham, Macclesfield, Dagenham & Redbridge and Chesterfield. Finally, we end the 7 games on the 28th when we travel to Gigg Lane to take on Bury.

Not the best of months with a couple of shaky draws, but only 1 defeat and 3 clean sheets shows a big improvement on August.

For the first time in any cup competition this season, we were NOT drawn against a team from a higher division. Instead, we are faced with a tough challenge against Blue Square Premier side Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup 1st Round.

Well, to put it bluntly, we got done over by a Nurse. A shock point to be honest, after one of the worst performances The Hatters have ever had. A lucky point, but it's more points dropped in the race for promotion.

We had to battle hard, but we managed to come away with all 3 points against a strong Chesterfield side. The victory game at a big cost though, as star striker Matty Hurst picked up a knee injury that will keep him out for up to nearly 6 weeks.

Our position may look bad, but based on our latest performances I can assure you that we do not deserve to be that low down in the table. A victory in our game in hand against Gillingham could see us rise up to 9th in the table, and if we do win that game I have no doubt that we can continue our march up the table, into a possible automatic promotion place.

What's to come in November?
November is the busiest month of The Hatters' season so far, as we face a mountain of games over the November period. We start the month with a tricky game against promotion chasing Darlington, before we play our huge game in hand against 2nd in the table Gillingham. These games are followed by our trip to Kidderminster Harriers in the FA Cup 1st Round, and then another away game against Wycombe. If we are forced to a replay by Kidderminster our next game will be against the Harriers at Wembley, and we finish the month with 2 difficult games against Aldershot and Lincoln. If we get through Kidderminster, we will finish the month with an FA Cup 2nd Round match.
