View Full Version : Stephen Hawking 'Very Ill'
Professor Stephen Hawking (http://uk.news.yahoo.com/fc/stephen-hawking.html), one of the world's most famous scientists, is "very ill" in hospital, Cambridge University has said.
The physicist, who works at the university, has been having tests at Addenbrooke's Hospital, Cambridge.
A university spokesman said the 67-year-old was taken to Addenbrooke's by ambulance.
"Professor Hawking is very ill. He is undergoing tests. He has been unwell for a couple of weeks," he said.
Professor Peter Haynes, Head of the University's Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics, added: "Professor Hawking is a remarkable colleague.
"We all hope he will be amongst us again soon."
The scientist is best known for his book A Brief History of Time.
Professor Hawking has motor neurone disease and is wheelchair bound. He speaks with the help of a voice synthesiser.
He developed symptoms of the disease while studying in the 1960s and is one of the world's longest surviving sufferers.
The physicist has worked at Cambridge's Department of Applied Mathematics and Theoretical Physics for more than 30 years.
Since 1979, he has been the University's Lucasian Professor of Mathematics.
Professor Hawking was awarded a CBE in 1982, became a Companion of Honour in 1989 and is a Fellow of the Royal Society.
He lives in Cambridge and has three children and one grandchild.
Professor Hawking was born in Oxford but his family moved to St Albans, Hertfordshire, when he was eight.
He studied at St Albans School before reading physics at University College Oxford then moving to Cambridge to carry out research in cosmology.
One of Professor Hawking's last public appearances was last September when he unveiled a £1m clock erected at Corpus Christi College, Cambridge.

That's not funny. It would be funny if Bill Gates has a virus.

Apparently he was rushed to hospital after his screen turned blue.Yeah you've had your glimpse of comedy no need to over do it, especially as most people didn't find it funny in the first place anyway.
Of course you won't be able to just see him in hospital, he won't be allowing any randomers to come in and see him, it's a place to get better not a place to meet and greet a physicist.

he is and yeah your right i prob cant see him but he goes through town on his own, its not like he has security or anything. He might do in the hospital but when hes doing his day to day stuff he doesn't.

They really can't.
If someone is dying of a disease that no-one can cure, hospitals can do screw all apart from make him comfortable.
He's comfortable anyway he can't really feel his limbs.
That's a shame, he's old so it'll be harder to fight hopefully he's alive and kicking though.

That's not funny for the simple fact that Stephen Hawking is no way related to computers. That's like me going over to the nearest day centre for the elderly, going up to an elderly person in a wheelchair and shouting "OH, HAVE YOUR LEGS CRASHED? DID IT GIVE AN ERROR MESSAGE!???!"
I do hope he's OK, on the news they shown clips from when he went to that place where you can experience zero gravity (or near zero). It looked like such a magical experience for him. He is truely a good man. :)

lol, hope he gets better soon, heard he was on the verge of discovering how everything was created.
I think Stephen Hawking is probably one of the most influential people in Science, and his story is remarkable and almost touching. I read his biography a while back and was sorta moved by it.
Also, I'm sure he will recover. He has a disease which confines him to a wheelchair, but he has probably caught something which you would all call "A VERY, VERY BAD FLU" and his condition has made it worse.
I think he has had an chest infection which is normal and loads of people are getting it lately but are recovering fine but because he can't move that makes it worse and his disease doesn't help.

Okay, okay that wasn't funny but...
He's apparently in hospital because he had a date and she stood him up.

LMAO. Mixed opinions of a hashed attempt at a joke.
But yeah, he's set to recover well and good which is suprising considering his disability.
Some people need to lighten up a bit.
Yeah because a severely disabled but brilliant man being confined to an hospital bed for possibly weeks on end is funny.

Seems like Hawking jokes are all the rage... click (http://www.habboxforum.com/click).
Not seen much more in the press about it which I guess is expected considering he's not Jade Goody and is unlikely to have Max Clifford posting regular updates.
Ah well, hope he makes a full recovery. Maybe he should try more exercise instead of sitting at a computer all day.
(Sorry.)
