I think you should definitely enforce a Signature of the Week. This will definitely increase the activity in the "Forum Graphics" catergory. It also brings the community together and offers a different kind of competetion to the website.
I've added a poll, vote on that please and also post your thoughts. If you vote on the poll, please tell us why?

I think they should, because it will be good fun to see who's signature is liked best by the rest of the users. But I wouldn't say the results of 2nd onwards because it might upset people?

The rate the signature is a pile of crap over ridden by the ignorant species of the spam section.
I don't want my work rated by someone busy fixing up an ego on a online forum, I want it rated by other people who contains skills in graphic editing software.

Amen. I also hate when you get noobs saying "OMG 20/10", this doesnt give you any kind of feedback at all. Then you get some other noobs like, "It's alright", these are the most pointless posts ever. Signature of the Week offers a little fun into the Graphic world.

To be honest, I completely disagree with this for a few reasons.
Firstly, 'judges' could (and probably would) be biased towards either people, or the type of signature. Another reason is, signatures would be judged based on personal opinion, so there would probably be a hell of a lot of different choices, so that would make it not work anyway. Oh, and there are so many members on this forum, loads of peoples signatures would be missed out, so it isn't really fair either.

I voted no because I don't see why you should get 'rewarded' or whatever else you're hoping to gain from this, you haven't done anything useful towards Habbox imo and therefore don't deserve some little title or anything else for a signature.. :S
plus in Member of the Month, one of the sections include graphics, so i'm guessing signatures would be put into this and therefore it is not needed, if it was allowed then there would be people asking for other silly things, unless Member of the Month isn't based on actual graphics then I have no idea.

Well, either the Graphics Manager or the Habbox Community could decide the winner?
How are peoples signatures going to be missed out? You post with your signature and then there will be a thread with everyones signature on a poll and people vote for them or if the manager decides, he just looks through them all.

A title for a week saying Signature of the Week Winner isnt going to hurt anyone? Im not saying you win prizes, just that or a picture you display in your signature. Us graphuc designers like these kind of things and most forums have a SOTW and it turns out pretty popular.

You also said the judges would be biased towards people. Im pretty sure that iConz wouldnt be biased if he was to judge and if you put everyones signature up on a poll and let people vote, noones going to be biased on that either.

graphics manager and the community can still be pretty biased though. Like Jack said, it's all down to personal opinion, different interests different taste etc, people are going to vote for what they like and different people like different sort of things so there can't be one winner unless it's something amazing that everyone likes, which you're not going to find every single week.

why? everyone will get competitive as usual and bitter if they don't win, it just seems really pointless.

Well, the hoster of SOTW puts a theme, and basically people vote for signature that best relates to that. Im pretty sure iConz wouldnt be biased. iConz is good at Graphics and knows what to look for and will pick the best one that relates to the theme set.
Well, people have different opinions so im not going to argue with you either.

This is how it would work, the person who is running it (be it the graphics manager or whoever) chooses a weekly OR monthly theme. People then design a signature to this theme, once completed they PM this signature to the runner of the competition - neither of them can post this signature ANYWHERE until voting time.
When it's time to vote the runner simply posts the signatures under the names of "signature one", "signature two" etc. This way the signatures all done to one theme and nobody can be biast.
You can only produce ONE signature.
It's done successfully on the EA forum so I don't see how it wont work on here, HxF is small change compared to the amount of members on EA.

And we can work out ways on how to exclude people being biast.
No need for personal opinions, just a theme.
Yes a lot of people do use this section however not a lot of people post signatures, look how inactive the forum is. It's the same people posting signatures.

We don't exactly need a reward, it just adds a bit of competition to the graphics section and some activity. Oh and the graphics section does help the users on the forum, go check the requests section. However a reward is not needed.
Member of the month is about the quality of posts etc, not the quality of the work.

I believe a few members who post signatures will love it. It's added competition.

Well I feel signature of the week is probably too frequent but signature of the month would be good. A stickied thread could be put in the section for people to apply to be included. The mod of the section, could, perhaps then
make a poll for members to vote which is the best, monthly. No judges needed then and anybody interested could vote. Winners of the monthly competition could then go head-to-head once a year for Signature of the year. Could be fun.

Yep, I was thinking weekly was too much when Yoshi sent me a PM asking for more detail about it. I suggested either two weeks or monthly. Two weeks would most suit it I believe however four weeks would be OK.
I also suggested that due to it not containing a prize a stickied thread might be an idea containing a list of winners and a hyperlink to the thread they won. Would be fun to see if anyone could get three competitions in a row etc.

That's exactly what I was thinking, the problem is that a moderator or the graphics manager would still need to select the best 10 unless voing was done by post as opposed to by poll which would be a little bit silly honestly. So we would still have someone, most probably the moderator, picking the top 10.

This is also a good idea if it goes forward.
The only other potential problem I see other than the moderators picking the top 10 is the possibility of it getting lost when moderation changes. This is easily fixed, however, all we need is a little kick up the arse from the community. Often its little things like this that slip through the cracks when things change and a lot is going on but if you let us know we'll do our best to get on it immediately.

Maybe a whole new Sub-Forum under the Graphics section called "Signature of the Month" and in that Sub-Forum there would be Current SOTM, Ended SOTM, SOTM Chat or something like this? I think just a sticky in the Graphics section just wouldnt work.

Well a sub-forum would be looked at less than the main forum so I personally think a sticky would be better. The idea would need the support of the staff of the section to give it exposure in the main forum/site regularly so people who perhaps don't visit that section normally would to enter their signature for consideration.

I did know what you meant but I do think more people would notice it in the Forum Graphics section as a sticky as that is where they put their signatures for comments. In this way I do believe you would probably have a better chance of your idea being accepted as opposed to wanting a new sub forum. I hope your idea gets the go-ahead. :)

I still think that would be awkward. Hoster may get muddled up with the last week/month and the present one. I dont know, its up to the Graphics Team..

That is excessive, a sticky in the GFX section definitely would work. SOTM isn't really THAT groundbreaking.
Stick a thread with winners permanantly, and put a new stuck thread up for nominations and then voting each month, that simple :)

Completely offtopic but wb rosie, it's been a while :)
Apologies for not reaing the thread all the way through but I'm kinda just killing time while I put off doing some coursework :P I think signiture of the week is far too subjective to be able to be judged. For example, if someone had a lyric from a song in their signiture which they really like and a judge finds that inspirational or touching or whatever it could beat other signitures which are equally good in different ways, for example a really good lolcat. A lot of people would have very little chance of winning purely because they find a different type of thing funny or don't like the same sorts of things as the person judging.
The way this could be rectified would be having different categories somehow or letting judges with different personalities choose one each but I think that might be getting a bit complex.

Hey Alex!
I think the idea is that members say which one they like best in a poll so there wouldn't be 'judges' as such . Most opinions on Art are subjective
anyway. I think that a good idea has been put forward and its worth a shot. :D
