No idea, but go private.
Cheaper and much better :)
Private is cheaper, but not always better. There's good and bad private instructors as well as good and bad that work for the larger schools.
I learnt with BSM and my instructor was awesome.

Maybe, but they also charge about 7 quid more than private instructors. Just go with an instructor a friend has recommended or something.

I knew the instructor, so he did my lessons on "family rate" which was £18 per hour. Normally they would have been £23 per hour :S.

I'm learning with the AA atm, but yeah they've been good so far. I pay about £24 an hour but I pay in block bookings so it makes it about £22 an hour lol
lol "back in the day" my lessons were £15 a time :D
(private btw)

Does it really matter? You and your instructor should know when you are ready. Even then there is a great element of luck in it. You have no control over the instructor, over the weather conditions, or (most importantly) over other drivers/pedestrians.
I went with a private recommendation. I've seen some very bad AA/BSM instructors in the area. People with the larger schools must also remember that they are paying for the overhead costs, not just paying fuel/instructor. Is it worth it for a fancy little label? IMHO, no. Go with recommendations.
Oh, and one little thing you might not have known: every instructor will have an instructor's license. For those who are private, they will have passed their courses and kept the license up to date. On the other hand, which I certainly didn't know, the likes of AA/BSM take on a lot of trainee instructors who haven't completed their qualification. I'm not encouraging snobbery, but it's worth taking a look when you first meet your instructor as to whether they are fully qualified, or instructing you as part of their own course. I would certainly have a better peace of mind knowing that I was learning from experience.

Pass promise - how can they promise that you'll pass? :S
Anyway, I agree with some other people in this thread, it's better to go with someone who has been recommended to you by word of mouth. With driving schools like AA and BSM, they might have like 99 good instructors, and you'll probably end up with the 1 **** one.
