Pokémon GOLD-SILVER remakes [HeartGold & SoulSilver]

Nintendo has confirmed a 2009 release for Pokémon HeartGold and SoulSilver, DS remakes of the principal Generation II Pokémon games, Gold and Silver
HeartGold and SoulSilver will be released in Japan this fall, possibly on or near Nov. 21, the 10th anniversary of the original release of their namesakes. International releases will likely come in mid-2010.

I miss the good days of Red, Blue and Yellow. The first Gold and Silver weren't bad but after that it got naff due to too many pokemon and not enough of them actually memorable.

I do think they'd do it for all the pokemon, the games just been announced and they already seem to have done quite a bit. Especially considering Corro Corro will be showing more information in the next few days, so they must have something new to show.

This would be completely different than gender differences.
It would be a completely new system, like natures, IV's, alternate coloration.

Im going to buy another DS or maybe a DSi. I'd really like to play this one seeing as G/S/C were my favourite Pokémon games. I've recently replayed Yellow as well as downloading the OST for R/Y/B and it's got me back into it. I also think I still have my copy of Pearl with like 70 Level 100 Pokemon and all the legendaries. So Im temporarily using that with my sisters pink DS ;P

I have to agree with you there. While I liked Red/Blue, they have to be my least favourite handheld Pokemon games. I don't really understand why everyone says they're the best. I had Pokemon Blue and everything in the game just looked so bland and colourless it drove me crazy. Even small things like the xp bars increasing aren't in the original games. They lack so much. The best ones were Gold/Silver and Sapphire/Ruby in my opinion. There was just so much to do in Sapphire/Ruby and Hoenn was a nice place to explore (I have nearly 400 hours of play time on Pokemon Ruby O.O). Same goes for Gold/Silver. Although Gold/Silver had one huge advantage over Sapphire/Ruby...

Hell yes. I will buy a DS purely for HeartGold/SoulSilver if Red battles you at Mt. Silver again. I wish the Pokemon games were a little harder though. He was the hardest person in the game but if you had a couple of lvl 100s (like any fan should) he was pretty easy.

Something that's been bothering me, among the immense excitement, is the pokewalker. I know from the descriptions of it that carrying it around gains XP for the pokemon within but I take it doesn't affect EVs? Would it be safe to assume that since EVs are dished out depending on opponents stats, if there's no opponent then there's no EVs? Can anyone clarify?

Yeah the pokemon dont gain EVs or evolve, or learn moves I think.... although I'm not sure about that last one (I think I heard if you level them up again in game they'll learn the move, although im not certain).
Also you can only level up once each walk, which is kind of ****

True dedication dictates that you charge your old, blocky DS and take it with you for when your DSi runs out of power. Besides, DSi's have awesome battery life, 10 hours is completely possible.
I'm holding off until after my exams in May but I'm not sure whether I should just buy a copy now so that I can appreciate it in all its glory. If I do that though I know I'll just end up playing it lol.

I think I got it from a "shop" off of ebay, which is my own stupid fault. Oh well. I'm not really a fan of anything passed Gen 2 anyways. And I caved in and ordered HeartGold from play.com - SoulSilver will come after I've gone through HeartGold.

All 493 Pokémon are capable of following players similar to Pikachu in Yellow. Shininess is also retained. The player can interact with their Pokémon by pressing 'A', and can see how their Pokémon is feeling at the moment. In battle, like Yellow's Pikachu, they are sent out from the side of the screen, rather than from a Poké Ball, unless in certain situations, such as while riding the bicycle or going into a small space with a big Pokémon.

What does the pokewalker actually do?

Every few steps you take, you get points called watts.
Havin' a certain amount of watts unlocks different areas.
In the different areas you can catch different pokemon.
You don't need pokeballs to watch pokemon on your pokewalker but you need to use 10 watts.
you can use 3 watts for an item that is random.

MacDonalds offer free Wifi in all of their restaurants. You don't even need to be inside, you'll pick it up outside although being inside has it's advantages obviously.

192.168.0.1 connects to the router and you can configure it.

Change it to WEP and then change your connection settings on your computer from wpa-psk or whatever you use to wep and use the key you got from the router (at 192.168.0.1)

Use ice or dragon moves on Dragonair, rock or electric (best to use electric) moves on Gyarados and dragon moves on Kingdra. So ice is only really helpful for 2 out of the 4 Pokemon.

I caught Lugia last night in 1 Heavy ball in SS. I would heavily suggest using heavy balls :P

Your a gym leader in kanto and you face a few challengers no big deal, no one beats you.
Then one day a mysterious rocket grunt comes and challenges you but as you send out your pokemon he steels 'em and knocks you out ;O!!!
Then you go off to the forrest on the outskirts of town and you encounter a pokemon that no one has ever seen before and you decide to try catch it.
Then you and that pokemon whom I don't have a name for but he's a ghost/fighting type pokemon and it's basically a cute black shadow with wings and boxin' gloves xD
Anywayyyyyyy you swear revenge on team rocket and embark on your quest to take down team rocket, invadin' multiple headquarters and eventually takin' down geovani once and for all and gettin' your pokemon back.
Then you decide maybe the gym life aint for you, so you carry on your adventure just travelin' around the region until someone suggests you try out the pokemon league.
You take on the pokemon league and when you win your offered a place in the E4 because one of them is retiring.
Then you accept it and from there on out if you enter the e4 and different trainer will challenge you every time to keep it excitin'

Haha, this sounds cool apart from that I always hated the parts of the games which were heavily Team Rocket orientated, as opposed to just catching wild Pokémon and going through gyms.

Lol omg I just had the best gym fight ever against jasmine.

Killed her first mag after it wiped out all but togepi and feraligatr AND paralysing my feraligatr..

Then I knocked her steelix down to like 10hp so she swapped and put out her other mag who knocked me down to 20hp..

Put togepi on and fed it to her mag so I could use a potion on my feraligatr..

Mag knocks my feraligatr down to 3hp.

3hp and paralysed and I one hitted her mag, she put steelix on and used hyper potion. Then I one hitted steelix!

So I basically beat jasmine with a paralysed feraligatr at 3hp haha so luckyyyyyy

I found Lance really easy, i used to same tactics as i did when fighting Clair.
Get your red gyarados up highish, then make it learn avalanche (if you have it) which hits double if you took damage in the same go, so that make it power go from 60 to 120.
Dragons are weak against ice so this is a brilliant move, to make sure you hit second so you get damage first (making avalanche hit double) give your gyarados the lagging tail which you should have, sometimes stupid items like that help. ;D

I love Pokemon, primarily because there is so much strategy involved (EV, IV, Move Breeding) and it makes the perfect strategy game. I'm annoyed the way its looked down on cause it is Pokemon :P

Used to play Pokemon Pearl and Diamond competitively a while back on Gamebattles. Going to pick up a DSi XL and SoulSilver at the end of this month. I agree, I love that the EV/IV, egg moves, natures and HP types of pokemon are all really important. I got my first flawless IV pokemon yesterday with RNG breeding and it felt like a real accomplishment :P

Anoo like.
Im slowly trying to breed and raise up a perfect team for online battling.
I tell you what, breeding the right pokemon with a good egg move and good nature THEN getting up EV six times is soso hard.

what on earth is ev/iv and what classes as a flawless/perfect pokemon? :S

Basically, EV is stats you cant see kinda, lets say you train your pokemon on a pokemon which has a high speed stat, when you have killed enough next time you level up instead of getting just +2 on your speed your get +3.
Thats the easiest way i can explain it.

Aha, it does take a long time.
IV is like the the added values when catching a pokemon, so i could catch 2 of the exact same pokemon but one might have some higher stats then the other one.
If you google it im sure you will find a better explanation if you do decide to get some perfect pokemon. :)

It's easy in diamond/pearl/platinum with that poke app thing which lets you chain wild pokemon to get shinys. Find the pokemon you want to gain a specific EV, then chain it. Also you could buy those hold items from the battle tower which increased EVs gained. AND you had the pokerus virus which doubled EVs gained. All that into account and it cuts the time way way down.

True true, i blaady hated that pokeradar though.
I spent hours chaining pokemon to get shinys, all perfectly getting a chain of around 50 before giving up and failing every time then i see some lucky guys chain twice and find a shiny gaaah.

I must admit as much as I like a few of the new features in heardgold I think overall, platinum was a better game ;o
