View Full Version : Bring back the writings sharing forum thing

As a moderately good writer, on the bare edge of win with ranting and generally a cynical **** , I'm finding it harder and harder to get feedback on my writing. I post some threads down in the console gaming, but really I don't get any criticism.

Back when I joined there was an entire forum thing for sharing our writings. Whether creative or opinionated. After around 3 months it was obvious that everybody found them boring and nobody gave a damn. But I'm sure some people did.

Writing is not about how many reads you get or the general criticism, it's sharing it with the right person. That's why I'm asking for a full blown Literature forum somewhere down in General. We can discuss books, have a real book club, criticise each others works, have all sorts of fun generally and mock each other.

I know we're not likely to get a large audience, but whenever I stumble into "Anime, books and other entertainment." it is generally all about anime or something else. I think the bookies around this place would appreciate it, and I doubt it'd be hard to even make.

Much love.

I would also love this. I remember once when I was reading Tess of the d'Ubervilles which is a pretty hardcore classic literature novel I created a thread about it and didn't get one reply.

If I'm going to be a realist I doubt one will be implemented into the forum because there isn't really much of a desire for one amongst the majority. I don't think many people would post there because there aren't that many teens that write their own material or talk about the books they read.

I really would love to see one introduced because it'd be a forum I'd use regularly because writing and reading is generally what I tend to do. Great idea, +rep for post.

If you want to share your writings with "the right person" then join a writers forum, there just isn't the demand for one on Habbox.

I remember that forum too :) I posted a couple of threads in there but I never got any feedback in that forum either! :(

That isn't what he was saying though. If you actually acknowledged the post he is fully aware that the demand might be there. I think if it was introduced as a reading/writing type thing there would be a lot of interest. Everyone reads books - even if it's just for their coursework or what not.

I would certainly like to see such a Forum however unless there is enough demand for it there is little point in having the Forum because it will only be removed at a later date. If enough support for a literature and writing forum can be rallied, you will most certainly see it's addition :).

*Makes some posters*

Great to see you'd be willing to add it if the demand is there Garion rather than just giving a concrete "no" answer which is what I've learned to expect to see.

Make a poll? :)

You got my support anyway!

Wow, great feedback. I thought I'd just be told to "**** off" , but just a handful of supporters won't make much a difference. That isn't to say it won't, supporters are the start and... don't hate me :3. I didn't put a poll in because I honestly thought I'd be slaughtered down, and because this is just a thread in the feedback forum. Not much recognition.

This'll be a long shot but those polls at the top of the forum, asking us what cell phone company blah or what theme we use. Maybe we could change that to "Would you like to see a Literature forum?". Just a thought.

You should PM Garion or someone asking him to add a poll onto this thread. I think you can do that and I'm sure he would do it for you. :)

The articles subforum was merged with Discuss Anything just under a year ago because it just wasn't getting used. Joey's "Teenage Lives" or whatever he'd called it was read quite often but other than that it saw perhaps 2 threads a week, if that (and let's face it most wasn't great quality). Whilst it'd be nice to have a decent writing community, this lack of activity and the fact that articles as a department had to close due to no-one actually reading it means that you're probably best off just posting any work in DA.

Aww I think A Habbox Book Club type thing would be nice n cute. Maybe it could be something literally like that. Like the Pixel Artist Group - you join it and see a few extra forums and stuff. Could easily do it for literature and writing based things. It would be nice to see, but as previously said its all dependent on demand.

That's a fairly good point but I'm not sure everyone down in Discuss Anything would like to read our works. I'll admit nothing is going to be of great quality, but what do you expect from a teenage forum based around a chat room. Another thing, it's better for it to actually be of bad or downright horrible quality, so that we can be criticised and learns.

Just another thought, not only should creative/opinionative things be posted there. But people could have help with their essays and just get general writing or reading tips.

If you stopped writing in purple when you can't read a word of it on the dark skin, then maybe I would read the crap that you come out with. But you never write anything which is good in the first place so for me to highlight it is even more effort and your not worth that much

Well I've voted yes anyway on the grounds that I'm a writer and would like to see this work, I just hope it actually manages to keep its head above water this time around. If everyone who's said they'd use it actually did then I don't see why we couldn't get a decent little writing community going.

It's good to still see people here are immensed with literature, which I think is absolutely fantastic. This would actually be a good idea, and even a getaway from those forums where people like to 'mess around'. Literature is a vital aspect and with what I can clearly see the right support, it would be good.

This is meant to be a forum for teens, then who says that teens in the 21st century don't like literature, I for one know many who do. So you've got my support.

I've voted yes and so have the vast majority so far. However, I fear people are just saying yes for the sake of it because they crave change and not necessarily because they will use the forum. Like Tom mentioned if everyone who has posted in here saying they'd actively use the forum did use it then there is no reason why it can't be active.

Nixt
11-05-2009, 10:15 PM
Although responses so far seem positive, as has been said people may well be voting for the sake of change - therefore it would be nice to see a bigger following before considering the addition of such a Forum; it certainly increases the chances of it being made.

I agree with people who are sceptical.

I did love the forum and posted there a lot but after a while it was only odd few people that commented on Teenage Lives.

If the forum ever re-opened i'd definatly resurrect Teenage Lives! :P

Maybe even a sub forum in Discuss Anything for now and if enough people use it, it's own forum again?

I would say a sub-forum would be great. A trial of a month could be done to see if it is active?

Sounds fair to me.

Immenseman
12-05-2009, 03:20 PM
Yeah. It'd be good to use it as a trial period then forum management could observe whether or not the forum had potential. If the trial forum "died" within that month or wasn't even all that popular than they could just close it and be done with it.

Just as a general note, we try not to do trial periods or then everybody wants a trial period. We'd probably make the decision that we think this will be active enough over the long term and implement it, we wouldn't really be expecting to look at it in a month, see it was dead, and reverse it.

I'm not shutting the door on this at all, I think there might be enough demand for it which still has to be seen but I don't think we will begin the practice of trialing forums because it will get out of hand.

So is this going to happen or will this topic just die? I'd love to carry out a trial period but as nvrspk said, it might make even more begs for trial periods.

Would still like this to happen soon enough. I'd love somewhere to just post my Purple Views instead of the Console Gaming forum, or anywhere else I can imagine.
