View Full Version : Wireless Router +REP!!
Hi guys,
basically, I have a Philips SNB6500 or something, and sometimes it disconnects and blah blah.
So yeah, anyway, I'm looking for a new one, this one's olddd... been looking at the belkin n1 vision ... good specs, good looks ...
needs to be for cable,
any recomendations? reviews for wear and tear on the n1 aren't too good... maximum around £80.
thanks!
i use it for general browsing, youtube, blah blah, I have a 20mb connections virgin media :D
thanksss
p.s needs good range

I have the normal Belkin N1 which is good. The vision is kinda pointless with the built-in dials and what have you that tell you the average speed of the network, but if it floats your boat then go ahead :P Anyway, the normal N1 is good, mine works fine. Disconnection problems are down to other reasons usually, not the network but that depends on the build and company.
it doesn't disconnect from the internet, just the lan. :)

Ahh, then it's the router yeah :P Or the computer, but most likely the router.
Not the computer, disconnects all the things on the LAN :P
Anyway, off to bed, expect some replies in the morning!
Looking at this:
Netgear Rangemax Dual Band Wireless N Cable Router
Any ideas?

I would say go with a Linksys WRT160N Wireless-N Router (http://www.ebuyer.com/product/142702)

I currently have the Belkin N1 Vision and its great :P
You have various options aswell through wireless such as guest access so if your sharing files/network storage on the network you can give a friend or something guest access (its a 8 digit number randomly picked) and they won't have access to anything on the network other than the internet :P

Linksys Speed Booster or something like that. (it's blue and has two signal things) I had it until I got my new computer and my friend has it, quite good.

Agreed. Anything with Linksys written on it, you know its good ;)
But on a side note, with N technology, if you want to use N instead of B/G (if you do not know already) you will need a 'N' compatible wireless card.
If your not bothered about N, just get a WRT54G or something, that's Linksys of course :)
My experience with linksys has been bad in the past, so not going down that route.
Scott- I've heard it disconnects often? and the screen freezes up??

Go on cnet and look at their router reviews:

Yes the disconnecting bit is true; but beklin are aware of the problem and have released a pre-firmware update (http://www.belkin.com/uk/support/article/?lid=enu&pid=F5D8232uk4&aid=9277&scid=0) which tackles the problem; or you could simply go to
http://192.168.2.1/wukongjiuwo.html
(hidden admin page) find the NTP process and kill it, the NTP process is which disconnects the internet for some reason (not really noticeable unless your on habbo and such then it signs you out, my msn used to stay logged in during a d/c so.) but with the firmware upgrade you shouldn't have any problems with it.
my screen also doesn't crash either so, don't know about that :P

Phone your internet provider and ask them to buy one they add it onto your phone bill, just one payment and you get it within 3ish days
