yeah i did it as well sadek. i think it went ok; i wasn't so sure about the definition questions but their only 2 marks each so not too bothered. i think the essay questions went relatively well i got 100% in the exam in january so i could still get a B and it'll be an A overall.

glad it went well for you x

I did education sadek. Hopefully it went alright, I remember looking on forums about it last time and like "eek, i didn't write him and her and this and that" but I still got 100%. We will all be taught different studies and stuff.

yhh last time i hardly wrote any (i think 2 or 3 for the whole exam in jan) and got a B which is alright. i just rly need a B this time aswell then sorted.

omg one of the chief examiners came to my college cuz she used to teach here and she was hinting at cultural capital and social policies, so the latter was what i mostly revised for then it didn't even appear. i was like :@:@:@

yeah our teacher went to this thing in london a couple of weeks back and they were all suggesting social policies would come up so here was me learning all ma policies for nothing!! i just hope it went ok, i rly wna do well in sociology for some reason.

dirrty
18-05-2009, 03:19 PM
yh i like knew social policies like the back of my hand lol. but i managed to slip in a policy in the meritocracy-related essay.

i rly wanna to well in sociology just to live up to teachers expectations & well i need a B minimum in all of my alevels to go to a decent uni. i enjoy sociology anyway lol, rare thing me enjoying a subject and being gd at it lol

Immenseman
18-05-2009, 03:22 PM
yeah i enjoy it too. i kinda feel like the pressure is on cuz of my jan result (without talking about it too much) my teacher is rly pushy and she put me forward for best college student, which i won so i wna make sure i get her an A!!!! at the end of the day i've tried my best so we'll have to wait and see.

dirrty
18-05-2009, 03:25 PM
yhh congrats on that best college student award lol. my college had the best student of the month for each subject but gave up after the second month :l

my teacher was like i have potential to get an A as i was 3 marks off an A in the jan exam, but i always manage to get a B in all subjects :( i could of revised more, but my lazinesss stopped me lol. but yh shouldn't be too bad considering the grade boundaries in jan, i bet this one is quite low n all

Immenseman
18-05-2009, 03:30 PM
well last time it appeared really low but it was still 80% to get an A still, i think. this time it's 72 out of 90 according to sadek which again is 80%. pretty bad at maths don't know how to do percentages but i think that's right lol.

dirrty
18-05-2009, 03:33 PM
yhh i hope its alright tho. im on the student room forum reading a sociology AQA thread and some ppl didn't know what triangulation, compensatory education or longitudinal study and the other 4 markers or w.e was :l srsly thats like basic sociology knowledge but i just hope my essays were alright.

did u use PET or PERVERT?

Immenseman
18-05-2009, 03:36 PM
lol i wasn't sure what triangulation or compensatory education were but i think it's pretty obvious. they should know what a longitudinal study is, lol. we've never said anything about compensatory education, we have done triangulation but i couldn't remember. i've looked at both of the definitons on the internet and i reckon i guessed them right. yeah, we were taught to use PERVERT.

i can't remember how much i wrote lol, i just remember that i used the booklet up and then asked for 3 more sheets. i think 2 1/2, 2 3/4, 3 1/2 and 3 1/2 pages though for each essay. but tbh i was looking at some model answers yesterday and some were short so i guess it depends on how much is waffle rly. most of mine probably is :l

Immenseman
18-05-2009, 04:24 PM
yeah i was the only one in hall to ask for extra pages and i used 3 extra pages but that doesn't necessarily mean anything.

dirrty
18-05-2009, 04:37 PM
well if wot ur writing is correct and not waffle then its alright. i want august to like be tomorrow lol cuz i rly wanna know wot i got!. i'm not going results day tho cuz i get back from holiday ON results day at 2pm n refuse to go in lol. probably call in n see. last yr lol i got my gcse results in a supermarket carpark in dubai haha

Immenseman
18-05-2009, 04:39 PM
haha. i really want to know what i got too. i'm not even THAT bothered about my others, i'm just dead curious to see what my final grade will be for sociology. if the second paper is too bad, i'll just retake. without being big headed i'd be surprised if my overall grade wasn't an A/B.

dirrty
18-05-2009, 04:43 PM
yh i don't wanna retake tho thats like a nononono for me. personally, a C is a fail for myself as i know i can do better but naw its good to have high aspirations for alevels anyway, not rly big headed

Immenseman
18-05-2009, 04:45 PM
yeah. i want to take the mick out of my sociology class too. we have really good banter in there and if anyone gets below a C they get ripped to shreds. i have had bragging rights since january because i always get As and ** in mocks and because of my jan result :eusa_danc

edit; lol at that being filtered.

dirrty
18-05-2009, 04:52 PM
i wish i got an A in anything overall :l sociology is supposed to be like so much harder next yr so if i got like a C, i'd so struggle next yr. my teacher was talking about the topics n i can't remember the first one, but the second one is either media or religion. i well wanna do religion. av ur teacher told u wot ur doing next yr?

Hehe saw that and was just reminded of a sociology geek answer :P
I did the exam today too. Thought it went okay but what the heck is a 'compensating' education? I was thinking compensation but I've never come across that term in lessons or in notes :(??

yeah when i was writing it i was like omg lol typical
compensatory education is government education policies which aim to tackle underachievement in deprived areas

crime and deviance and religion i think she said. something like that, sounds pretty good. my teacher would take me regardless of my result i reckon

Goodbye two marks :(
LOL I was nowhere near 'when the school compensates for the pupil's needs (eg schoolbooks)' If the examiner's drunk, I might get something!
I was desperately looking in Item A for a clue :P

edit: I'm doing exact same A2 topics as well xD

omgOmgOMgOMG :l :l :l :l :l :l :l i can't express how pissed off i am

i just realised that for the value consensus essay i put dded values which pupils receive from education INSTEAD of an agreement between societies members about what values are important :@:@:@:@:@:@

would i lose a lot of marks for this? :'( or just won't mark it but i'd still be able to get decent grades depending upon the rest of the essay??

Immenseman
18-05-2009, 07:11 PM
i realised i forgot loads of things but i had a lot of decent content in my essay too, hopefully. you won't be down marked for getting something wrong - it's positive marking. you get marks for the things you do right. although obviously if you make loads of mistakes the examiner will think you don't know anything about the topic - only then would it mess up your grade.

dirrty
18-05-2009, 07:19 PM
omg thank god for positive marking. cuz the whole essay is on value consensus so i'm like well worried :l lol. but the content is all correct & relivant (hopefully & i think so anyway) so i hope not putting the correct definition won't hinder me reaching the higher knowledge boundary.

Inseriousity.
18-05-2009, 07:29 PM
My teacher hates us discussing the exam afterwards and I know why, you always find the things you do wrong :(

I'm sure you'll be fine though! If it wasn't a point you made the whole way through then they'd know it was just a small mistake. It did say in Item A though. I hope I used it enough because according to my teacher, you need to use it to get into the top band.

dirrty
18-05-2009, 07:46 PM
yeah i used the item correctly, besides value concensus lol. i think i only made that mistake once, so hopefully the examiner will see that its a mistake, and not lack of knowledge or whatever. aslong as i still get a B, i don't mind. hopefully a mid/high B though. don't want a low one.

i always discuss exams though and find out where i did wrong. its human nature lol.

Immenseman
18-05-2009, 07:48 PM
yeah, i discuss them think i did really bad and then get my result and usually did ok. i've never actually came out of an exam with below a C. i got a U at GCSE ICT  but that wasn't an exam :D

dirrty
18-05-2009, 07:54 PM
lolol exams are usually my weakpoints and coursework is where i get all the grades! according to some sociologists, i'm a female :l lol as males usually do better at exams. thought i'd slip some sociology into the sentance lol.

anyway i got like a D in my maths gcse exam but that was cuz my calculator wasn't working :l but i retook and got a c. i got a D in a science gcse exam aswell but got a B overall so dnt care bout that D rly lol. oh yeah i got a D in the ict gcse aswell lolol but the coursework pushed it to a C overall

Immenseman
18-05-2009, 07:56 PM
oh thats a good point i got a U in 2 of my maths modules, lol. i don't think i had equality of opportunity mind you :-l haha

We used PETS but it was kl!

Erm mac and ghail was included for ma essay, i seriously wrote so little i barely finished the answer booklet were one girls asked for 10 pages in total doublesided ***? and she even left the exm 15 misn early too conifdent she will get an A exams so far so good 6 more left 2 dis week 3 june!

WTH disadvantages then agen i just realted to avantages aswel. U cud of sed crime rates manipulated ignore white collare crime such as fraud? i really need an A for this then i can go to a gd uni!

families was quite easy, but this jus took soo long, and worst of it 10 mins into the exam i bursting to go tiolet, how unlucky for me?

then again i o AQA apparently OCR

acording to some sociologists, i'm a female :l

I went through the whole module the same! My parents socialised me as a girl! I blame primary socialisation! :D

As for disadvantages... erm, I had... "politicians could easily alter them (like their expenses) to avoid embarassment", "judgement of a professional. A coronor determines suicide. What if he was wrong? The person who could tell us whether it's a suicide or cunning murder is in no fit state to speak" well it made me laugh anyway :(

haha but the thing about coursework tho is that u can do it over a long period of time and easily get a decent mark through drafts and can go at ur own pace. whereas exams are just like a burst of knowledge within 2 hours and not a lot of time to contemplate on the questions. thats why when i found out sociology was 100% exam at the beginning of the academic year, i was like omg fail :$

Immenseman
20-05-2009, 12:45 PM
yeah, coursework is such an easy way to get a decent grade, probably why it's being discontinued. although, a feminist approach would criticise this point by stating it is being discontinued to ensure girls don't continue to excel at academic education, haha.

I thought it went well. Both of the two mark questions threw me though, but that shouldn't matter too much in the grand scheme of things. I did the education section, along with answering the 20 mark question on participant observation and then the other one was on offical statistics.

Your thoughts are exactly the same as mine then. Good luck! :)
