Hi!,

http://www.searchmerge.com/_images/header/logo_sm.png (http://www.searchmerge.com/_images/header/logo_sm.png)

My colleague Greg Cooper (@awfy (http://www.twitter.com/awfy)) and I (http://www.twitter.com/parallelworlds) have recently built a new website called SearchMerge (http://www.searchmerge.com/)(previously GoogleWith). It's a sort of search engine that allows you to search most of the popular open social networks whilst at the same time searching Google.

The site is still in it's early beta stages so we're sorry if it works slow or doesn't give back the best results.

If you could check it out and let us know what you think, we'd appreciate it http://www.clubhabbo.net/images/smilies/001_smile.gif

Here's an example search: Andrew WK (http://www.searchmerge.com/#?q=andrew%20wk&s=select-twitter,select-flickr,select-youtube,select-google)

Thanks,
Simon & Greg.

Yeah, we still need to make it load the APIs faster :).

Okay, terrible search example :)

Before anyone complains about the logo, I know it's bad. Had to mock it up in about 10 minutes as we were doing a quick switch of names and haven't went back to mess with it more.

I REALLY like it !

Best of luck, maybe when you get round to it you could let SearchMerge search through TIM (HINT).

So good luck!

I like it. Plenty of hours of work have been put in to this, however I don't think it is something I'd ever use, simply because I don't need it.

It's mainly for a brand audience who needs to keep on top of where their brand is being spoken about and used. Has came in handy for finding blogs, tweets and videos about Youmeo, Tweet O'Clock and of course SearchMerge itself.

Not too keen on the design, sorry. It's very bland in my opinion.

Wow, really like this!

Its not exactly original, but unlike the others you have kept it simple and done it correctly.

A suggestion I would have it, maybe add youmeo to the search options? Seems like a good way to get youmeo some more publicity with the hits coming from Mashable.

Anyway, really well done.

Having an overcomplicated or gimmicky design would ruin the point of the site.

It doesn't need to be complicated or gimmicky but I think its really really bland, there's very little colour. Take google for example, a very simple site but the logo is really colourful and makes up for the rest of it.

The service logos, the top right ribbon and the search results add enough colour to the design I feel. We want to appeal to all audiences, not just the younger market by having the site full of colour. Though, I do appreciate your comments so thanks :)!

Greg knows about the logo so hopefully a new one will show up soon/

We were discussing Facebook for the launch, but the only relevant results we can get is from people search - though, if Facebook allow us we may offer that in the near future.

The new design is pretty :) Not sure about that shade of green though, it's a bit dark/dull.
Oh, and well done on getting on mashable :)

Bumped into this on Greg's blog, I didn't like it back then.
However, what you have done with the design is amazing, it functions much better now and it's general appearance is still simple yet a lot more effective.

Well done guys - I look forward to seeing more of this in the future. :)

I think the SM logo should be bigger (Above the selection box).

At the moment it is tiny.

That would take up far too much room.

Google don't have the logo above the search box when they display results, we keep the same search box in view once the results have been processed. Therefore if the logo was above the inputs it would push the results even further down the page.

Fade out the big one and fade in a small one as you scroll up.

Real timing for "Google" is fun. I think you should add an arrow that shows more of a selection, such as other search engines e.t.c.

Edit: Using "#" as a search term kills it :/

So we'd also have to extend and contract the area where you select which services to use also? Little over complicated for something that isn't needed...

This has a special 'real time' feature for twitter, it brings up the tweets as they happen, also try 'real timing' google for the term google. It is so much fun

You choose to slide the box up instead of just loading another page and have it do there without all the stupid javascript fancy doodads? Little over complicated for something that isn't needed...

Take some damn advice, your number one problem is that you listen to nobody but your ring of bumchums in the office.

Agreed.

You seem to just think that unless you do it yourself, and come up with the ideas, the idea is crap?

I don't like the idea and I've expressed a perfectly good reason why. Why would I implement an idea which makes the site uglier and slower to use? :S

I take suggestions, just not stupid ones. I have implemented a lot of ideas and suggestions, as has Simon, that have been expressed via Twitter and GetSatisfaction that you people are probably unaware of.
