A new optical recording method could pave the way for data discs with 300 times the storage capacity of standard DVDs, Nature journal reports.

Yeah I heard about this. Blu ray isn't really that big a storage jump compared to DVD (in the grand scheme of things), this is much more like it to keep discs competative as a storage medium.

Things like this are a long way off being available to consumers though, unlike Blu-Ray :P
