Hey all,

Im in a need of a bit of help with writing a letter to solicitor. I am writing the letter to him to get £500. As my nan died about a year ago and as we sold her flat i get 1/5 of the money - over £30,000 and i am in need of £500 to help me with fees for stuff. But it states in her will im not allowed to have any of this money until i am 21.

Do you know what i could say to the solicitor in a letter to convince him to give me £500 of the money? as i dont have a clue were to start

Thanks :)

I don't know where you would start to be honest. A will is a legally binding document and I don't know what you expect him/her to do.

Well if you are under 18 your parent's would have to apply for you.
There maybe some discretion in your trust fund not to have anything out of the capital but you maybe able to get some of the interest that has accumulated.

If Barmi can't help you then I doubt anyone can as he has more expertise in this than anybody else on the forum, probably. However, there is no harm in trying but the solicitor would be breaking a law if he broke the will so I doubt you'll get any.

Well to be honest, I would respect her Will and not take any of the money. Obviously we all need money for all sorts of things before the age of 21 and I'm sure your Nan was well aware of this. Maybe she doesn't want you to have access to the money so you don't start taking things for granted, basically being spoilt. Just work for the amount of money, maybe even borrow it from a good friend/family as oppose to the bank. But just try to respect your Nan's Will. :)

Why do you need the money anyway? Is it REALLY necessary?

I think he is saying he gets 1/5 of the money which is £30,000. He didn't say what the total was.
