This summer I am directing a 35-minute short film that I have written, titled In the Realm of the Sadist. It's a survival horror set in the North American back country.
I thought I'd create this thread so people can follow the production of the film if anyone is interested in the film-making process.
I have a working relationship with an American film production and distribution company and we are both confident that together we will secure a distribution deal for a DVD, with release hopefully by the end of 2009.

Check out that website for the independent musician who is scoring the film. He's a fantastic unsigned talent with some exciting projects in the works, and he needs all the support he can get.
I'm not holding much to secrecy with this project, so I have uploaded the screenplay for all to read if they wish. I'm sure many have not seen what an industry-standard film script looks like.
Anyway, if people are interested in the film, I'll update this thread as more information is available on its production.

Sounds good, can't wait to see it! :)
What happened to your other one with the porn stars? lol

It fell through due to the company being too badly hit by the credit crunch. They immediately stopped all investments, and no money = no film.
But I still have high hopes for it when this damn thing passes.

I hope you go further :)

Read the script, very profesional in my opinion. Good luck with that!

What's the point in you making it? It's very unoriginal.

It is not supposed to be the most original film. Besides, it's just a short horror film, and I personally love terror-in-the-woods stories.

Updated draft.

I have received an email from a company who wishes to option the script, which means take into consideration for production after a first fee has been paid. As stated above, I was directing my script for a company in America who had interest in distributing it, but it's much more exciting to have a company have interest in the whole lot.

Nice 20 minute read :)
Could be a good film, but you need a good cast!

My dialogue reminded you of QT? Wow. :O
Thanks for your compliments guys, appreciated. I was going to add an opening kill, then had the idea of expanding it into a feature, but now I've got this other company interested in it, so I may not be directing, just selling the script. I'll keep you updated.
I may as well upload a feauture I wrote if those who liked this would want to stomach 82 pages of pretty much a way-too-heavily-inspired-by-Jaws screenplay I wrote for a company in America as a sequel to SHARK IN VENICE before suddenly being told by the director on the phone he had a sudden change of heart about making anymore shark films. I'm not going to do anything else with it now. So if anyone would like to, I'll do so.

I read through the first few pages, but it was pretty dull. Not my thing I guess.
Fancy reading one of my screenplays? I'm working on my fourth feature now. I've done some shorts if you want to read 'em.

Sure, just PM me I guess. It's part of my job to read scripts anyway.

Haven't received a second response from the company who were interested in producing the film, getting rather impatient with them if I'm totally honest as they specifically asked me to respond ASAP. If they take much longer, I'll tell them to go away and make the damn film myself as originally planned.
Other than that, I'm about to sign to be Assistant Producer on some upcoming TV shows and feature films.

I read it over a period of time, so I'm not sure if I missed anything so would like to ask some questions.
how far into the movie do they meet red?
so steve? and his girlfriend play no other relevence in the film?
I think it was really good though, although I'm not into horror the script was really well written. some parts are a bit OTT but will be nice to see how it plays out.

Thanks, I'm glad you enjoyed it...
The industry standard is that one A4 page equals one minute of screen time, so the teenagers meet Red about 10 minutes into the film. As revealed at the conclusion of the script, Steve is actually Red's half-brother and when he bumped into the kids at the start of the film, all that stuff about his girlfriend was just a lie.
Supposed to be OTT :) I wanted to write something really depraved and disgusting. No holds barred.

oh!
sorry about that, I'm sure in an actual film I would have been so much more observant. just seems a bit weird in some films where you think "why didn't he kill them right there" if he was a killer all along.
i like the idea of it being a game, and the idea of the concert. although as you said some is very unoriginal and a little predictive.
would actually watch this, even if it's not my usual film to see the final product. good luck with it.

Thanks, I'd love to make it. If the company don't contact me again and I go it alone like I was originally, I'll have to get my priorities straight for getting it made - I'm knee deep in projects at the moment, I have SO much to write that I'm involved with, shorts, features, a web series, not to mention stuff for the company I work for. It's good to have a lot on my plate, but it's a hell of a lot.
I think I'm being interviewed on an online radio for independent film-makers soon, so I'll definitely bring this project up to talk about.
Reading it now. Its great so far!

So who's acting in this film?
Since the project is up in the air, nothing is confirmed at this stage. I had local actor friends of mine playing the roles, but everything is on hold until I hear from this company.
