So in 4 weeks I will be switching to a dial up connection (whoooo!) to save data transfer, increase page load times and just generally make my life cheaper I was wondering if there was a way to selectively block images in firefox?

At the moment FF blocks the whole domains images however some images are crucial such as images for the navigation, others are large and pointless such as banners, background images, article pictures, photos etc.

I was wondering if anyone knows of a plugin or a way to selectively block images in firefox as oppose to the whole domains?

adblock i suppose but you'd have a hard time having to block every image indivually.

How much cheaper are you talking? Surely there's no need?

Things must be damn tight if your going onto a dial-up connection? :S

I need internet connection at various music festivals so I am using my mobile phone as a modem.

However at £3 per mb it works out very very expensive so cut out the 55kb images and just load the 3kb page and I would be making a large saving.

On top of that the pages would load a lot faster on a dial up connection.

I will check it out I would only need to do it once, I need to block certain images on my work website, work portal and our extranet.

Is this with adblock? Does this work with flash scripts too as we have a flash application which I don't ever use?

There's another extension which also works with AdBlock Plus.
Element Hider thingy, you can select images which in future then will not come up again. Dunno if this is what you're looking for though...

No script of course; https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/722
Adblock Plus Element Hiding Helper; https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/4364

I don't think I've got AdBlock anymore but I can right click an image and it says block link from but I suppose that'll block all the images in your image folder if it's on your work website etc, AdBlock will do the job, only blocks actual images and not links so it's all good.

Some sites upload their nav buttons and layout buttons to seperate folders, but not all of them so I can't see how it would work to be honest...

It would be interesting to see how a Firefox App would do this :P

I think the ad blocker may do the trick as you can set filters. One issue I have is with our staff forums, where the buttons are as images.

So I can use the filter to block domain.com/*/

But allow domain.com/forums/

It wouldn't be hard to make if you specify exactly what to block not just what folder to block.
