Striker Fernando Torres has signed an improved contract with Liverpool which includes an option for another season. The 25-year-old has been a huge success since joining from Atletico Madrid two years ago and scored his 50th goal for the Reds on Sunday against Tottenham.
The Spanish international still had four years remaining on his original six-year agreement.
But Liverpool offered him improved terms and added an option to take the deal through to the 2013-2014 season.
Liverpool manager Rafael Benitez said: "Fernando is one of the best strikers in the game today and, at his age, can only get better.
"Every major side would want him in their team, but he has shown how much he wants to achieve success at Liverpool by committing his future to the club.

Brilliant news - even though it adds 1 option for staying for another season - along with Gerrard, Kuyt and Agger all signed new contracts recently too.

The only point of this contract was to get Torres more money. But yeah, good result for all you scousers, hope he stays for longer than another five years though, TBH.

It'd take a good 50mill to prize Torres from Liverpool.
