By price is no concern I mean like £3k, 4k whatever, just don't go insane.

The obvious choice would be:

17in MacPro
8gb RAM
256gb Solid State Harddrive

3.6k

:D

24 inch
2.66Ghz
4GB ram
640GB HDD
GeFirce 9400M gfx

Fair price for an AIO, and their 24" screens are godly. The extra hard drive space could be used for bootcamp/vmware/parallels .

I read somewhere SSDs are crap, and just get slower and slower. Is that true?

They're fast, expensive, and have a shorter life span than harddrives.

That is not to say that have a short lifespan in general though.

I have noticed that my Aspire One, has been faster than my AsusEEE. Both have the exact same specifications, but the EEE has a SSH and the AOne has a HHD.

I read that they're fast, but the writing times and so on get slower and slower (can't remember why). So eye candy it must be! Or for people who like living on the edge.

I have not heard about the write speed being reduced over time, though if that's true then SSDs are pretty useless.

Why bother with an iMac. Don't you UKers have like Kijiji? I got a brand new Mac Mini with a Mighty Mouse, Keyboard, and Leopard/iLife 09/iWork 09 all for $580

Works great, some guy bought it and didn't like it so he didn't bother with it.

I thought that Macs were crap too but I had to use OSX to do iPhone stuff and actually I'm quite impressed with them. For years I've been a loyalist PC supporter but I might just have to make the change....

I've decided as I'm upgrading my current computer and getting rid of pretty much everything in it, I'll be using my old components to build myself a hackintosh, the only reason I can't use OS X now is because of the 4890, that will change when I build as I have a 3870 left over doing nothing.

Cool I don't really like hackintosh much as you have to do so much if you want to update the software it just gets annoying after a while.

No it doesn't, I use a vanilla kernel, updating through software update "just works".
