View Full Version : Good reaction

Good reaction to the attempted disruption by the SDMs. I was critical when the reaction was non existent and nobody took control of the situation but this time people did so it's only fair I say well done :D
Especially to Matt, Garion and Sam who ensured everyone knew what was going on and did everything they could to ensure the forum was safe.
One thing I would say is it highlights the need for people to be given admin access on habbox.com. I think there needs to be another "technical person" altogether to aid Jin and his work although I understand this is difficult to find the right candidate.
Thanks it's nice to get some positive feedback. It is difficult giving people access to different areas of admin access and by minimising it we minimise risks of people getting hacked and compromising (I like that word) Habbox.com and it's related websites.

Thanks for the thread Jake. Myself, Garion and Sam was all communicating together to make sure nothing happened to the forum and I think it has paid out very well. :)
I think the situation was handled very well by the staff we have. The issue we have when it comes to these sort of circumstances and giving out admin access is not only finding people that are capable of the various technical aspects but also they must be very trusted. Which is something I don't think we can commit to doing especially considering the level of admin powers we are talking about here is something we can't mess around with.
There are only 3 people who have full administration of Habbox, Sierk, Me and the GM.
If anyone was to abuse these powers we would be off the internet for a week I reckon.

Yeah just from a personal view. I'm not interested in hx.com and hxl.com but even though the "hacker" had access to an account with powers on the forum everything was dealt with so well and the forum came to no harm apart from one announcement which wasn't up for any long.
Yeah Jin, I know it's hard for you sierk and nvr to find appropriate people for the reasons you stated but I think after this week things have to be reviewed. Even if that's just giving a forum admin admin rights on hx.com which would have ensured the article wasn't "public" for so long etc.
I don't think you can give anyone the rights you sierk and nvr have because nobody in the right positions can do technical stuff. In fact, I don't think sierk and nvr can anyway (not 100% sure, just guessing).

Surely the News Manager has the admin power to remove articles?
Unless it was this account compromised?
There are a couple of members of staff, such as Mrs. McCall who have increased access to Habbox.com who could of removed the article it's just unfortunate they weren't online at the time. It's just a case of who is in the right place at the right time.

It was ,Jess, account and Joey did remove it as soon as he came online. :)

Yeah, I guess you're right. Can't go handing it out willy nilly for obvious reasons.

Meh well done to all who worked to make it better.
I do think the whole "SDM" thing is a bit childish though... a professional reaction would have kicked them harder.

Yeah but at the time Sam was probably irate and it's his personality and I'm sure it gave few people a smile. Nice to know that you can bring light in rubbish situations like when someone said to me "thats why girls shouldn't be managers" sure it isn't truthful but it's funny (not that I was the one who said it ;))

Of course if Sam had mentioned it elsewhere I believe this would have the effect you are talking of, but in the public announcement?
Anyway things like that are menial.
The issue is the way in which this issue was dealt with by certain members off staff such as Garion, Jin & Mrs.McCall. Well done :eusa_clap

As the situation was occurring, behind the scenes it was a bit hectic. Me and Garion were in constant communication to try and get things done, then as soon as Mrs.McCall was on we were in constant communication to try and handle situations as best as we could with what we had until the superheroes came online. As I also had to update everyone, to ensure they knew we were fighting the problem I took it with a pinch of salt. I guess I'm just not that diehard serious, but hey! What was more important to me was dealing with the situation, not how I put across the updates :P. Sorry if it offended you.

A big hand to Sam, Garion, Joey, and Jin. They did an awesome job.
Jake, in reference to the technical thing, I know enough to sort out emergencies, while I can't necessarily fix EVERYTHING I can fix it to the point where its no longer a security risk but instead something's broken. Usually we do have a second technical guy in OSH and we have a third secret guy who wasn't around at the time but yeah.

Yeah, I did try and get in contact with OSH (I know he's away) but wasn't able to make contact because at the time I knew you wouldn't be on until later and wasn't sure if Jin was away. Things were done pretty smoothly anyway which is exactly why I made a little (a) fuss the other day about the lack of communication when forum was down so it wouldn't happen again and it didn't.
Its just taking a light hearted approach to things! Its my style I can't help it.
and we love you for it ;)

better not have been...
I don't think more people should have rights, just incase of another breach of security, todays events show us that it can happen. Everything was sorted, maybe not as quickly as it could have, but it was and no lasting damage was done, which is the main thing.

Thanks for the well dones.
The way in which Sam dealt with it was both humourous and professional. He was humourous (sp?) on the forum but when he was speaking with me on MSN he was very professional and delegated well and there was great communication.
They just got lucky that they struck at a time when there were no admins or people with admin powers online.
