When you apply for a provisional drivers licence, do you need to get it countersigned like when you apply for a passport?

I don't think so... although it may need your passport?
Sorry answers so vague, my memory sucks :p
I think you do, not sure.

You need someone who is not a member of your family such as a teacher or doctor to sign the back of your picture then they have to fill out a section on your provisional form stating who they are, how they know you, they have known you more than 2 years and their address.
You will also need your passport so you can get your number thing from it to prove it is you.

What Dani said. You need to write the number down from your passport, you don't need to send the passport off though. Also need 50 pound cheque. :)

or postal order.
They don't actually check up on it I don't think, I put my Dad down and nothing got mentioned.
I think you either have to put down someone you know OR send your passport number - that way they can make sure it's you. Might of changed now though; but that is how I remember it.

You do - they send a small form through the post to complete and return.
All you need is a family friend to sign it to confirm that it's you - that is all I did with mine and it was fine.
