Setanta on the brink of collapse!

Setanta are reported by the BBC to go into administration in days, after they couldn't pay the SPL the £3M they owe them and now the EPL are asking for thier £30M. The backers can't/won't pay.

Going to leave a big gap in SPL fianances and I guess they will be looking for a new broadcaster and so will the EPL. Will ESPN come and swoop up Setanta?

Maybe were gna get a version of the yanky "ESPN SPORTS CENTERRRR" - haha, would rival SkySports though.

But anyway, they won't go out of service, their owners are pretty rich, they're the main sports broadcaster in Ireland to, they'll get the money if they wanted.

I'd love a UK version of sports centre. It's be woth the subscription just for that aha. But apparently the backers don't want to waste any more money on it... But I think ESPN would have a crack at UK Sports Broadcasting with ESPN America and ESPN Classic now on the listings. But I think it would need a radical shake-up. They should lose the EPL rights cause they are too expensive for the rubbish games they get.

Yeah, SkySports will soon have all PL games available on the red button anyway, IMHO, and then sell rights to foreign broadcasters to view the games also.

ALL PL games should go back to Sky TBH.

I actually dislike sky's coverage sometimes because they bum off the top 4 too much. The EPL were actually thinking about setting up their own TV channel (with some, not all, games on). The big US sports have done it, NFL Network, NBATV & MLB Network.

Setanta are no longer accepting new subscriptions at the moment. I think it says all. I read someone's 3-word description of setanta:

Setanta fails, they've wasted most of their money on all the boxing and ufc fights, bundesliga, holland footballs league, SPL which fails, crap PL games which are... crud, Setanta Golf which no one watches, Setanta Sports News which just fails compared to SSN.

They need a major re-shuffle.

Agreed. But I think UFC and foreign football is probably the only good bit about setanta. Setanta News is terrible.

They were failing already so they decided to get even less premier league games with Sky getting 5 out of the 6 packages rather than the 4 they had before hand. You just don't compete with Sky, it's stupid.

Why is everyone bashing Setanta on here? They tried to open up domestic football to the public via a small subscription fee yet people still have some sort of profound love for Sky?

Sky hooks you in on a contract with an essay of smallprint and is a multi billion dollar monopoly which has ruined sports as it seems now on top of your TV liscence you have to pay extra to watch most sports.

Id rather give my money to Setanta than that aussie tyrant Murdoch any day of the week.
