Manchester United have confirmed they have accepted a bid from Real Madrid for Cristiano Ronaldo.
Ronaldo's future at United has been the subject of constant speculation with Real trailing his signature for the last three summers
Real president Florentino Perez has made no secret of the fact that he would like to lure Ronaldo to El Santiago Bernabeu.
Real have now agreed £80million offer for the Portuguese ace and United have given the World Player of the Year permission to talk to the Spanish titans.
Ronaldo will now head to the Spanish capital to hold discussions with Real and undergo a medical.
Real have already snapped up Brazilian superstar Kaka in a world-record deal, but a move for Ronaldo would eclipse that deal.
"Manchester United have received a world-record, unconditional offer of £80million for Cristiano Ronaldo from Real Madrid," read a club statement.
"At Cristiano's request - who has again expressed his desire to leave - and after discussion with the player's representatives, United have agreed to give Real Madrid permission to talk to the player.
"Matters are expected to be concluded by 30 June. The club will not comment until further notice."

Ronaldo pretty much single handedly won them matches. I cant see anyone else in that squad, or Valencia, being able to do that. They've got no one else that special.

well, fergie said a while back he would rather let ronaldo rot than sell him. So i'm guessing the higher powers at the club authorised the sale, the same higher powers who might just owe a bit of money to a few friends of theirs...

Tevez, Valencia from Wigan, and maybe Benzema/Ribery?

I think it's funny people think United will finish third without Ronaldo. They will have 80million which they will use to strengthen their squad. Ronaldo is one of the best players in the world and they won't be able to replace him with the same quality. However, they can get 3/4 world class players with the £80 million and the money they would have had anyway. United probably have £100 million to play with. I genuinely am not 100% concerned about Ronaldo going. If he wants to go, let him.

Wolverhampton
11-06-2009, 11:12 AM
I'm quite happy that he's going TBH, just don't like the manor in which Real Madrid are going about, buying the best players for absolute silly money.

11-06-2009, 02:23 PM
Anyone else rather worried by the growing strength of La Liga. Barcelona have just smashed Man Utd, Real Madrid have signed Kaka and look set to be signing Ronaldo. 2 of the best footballers in the world have just joined Spanish league. Now I know that the Premier League will still be strong but the Spanish league is starting to rise. Man Utd can't replace Ronaldo but they can buy other players to strengthen other positions. I don't rate Ribery myself. £60m is a bigger rip-off than Ronaldo if you ask me.

Its just because Madrid are by far one of the worlds greatest clubs, and people actually want to play for them.

LOL, the united team is surely not lacking depth. Ok Ronaldo was a big presence for us on the pitch but we'll manage without him. We have Rooney, Nani, Giggs, Scholes, Anderson... ect.

Ronaldo = Money Grabber, for what this Club have done for him, he's basically thrown it all back in their face.

If he wanted to go, then that's fine. Zip up until the end of the season, alway through the season it's was always about Ronaldo, Ronaldo this, Ronaldo that. He should of just wait to the end of season and come out and say he wanted to go. He really did unsettled the team. Tbh i had enough of his tantrums and he's silly attitude, thanks Real for £80 Million!

I'm starting to question is it worth giving/offer players long term contracts... A contract is a contract and a player should be loyal to a contract until it is run out.

I don't think Valencia would be a signing to make a difference to the team tbh, Ribery would be a good signing but i think he's worth 20-40 million. 60 Million for him is a joke and i don't think united will be prepared to pay that amount for him.

£130 Mill we've got,

Ribery - 35 million.
Tevez - 25 Million.
Sign Alonso.. Lol. :)

Probably a decent attck/striker to give Rooney and if Tevez stays, some support. That's all tbh.

If think what were lacking is a LEADER. Since Roy Keane there has been no one who is leading the team. Carrick ,Rio, Gary haven't been up to the job. So it would be nice to get someone in who can bring the team together and lead them.

I can seen Becks coming to us in October. ;) Maybe even now.

Did I say that? Yes dear, Anderson next season will score the 26 goals Ronaldo scored. Lets see, Giggs scored 2 this season and Anderson has never scored for United. I wouldn't rely on those boys. And how long are you going to keep relying on Scholes and Giggs? That leaves Nani who is a brown mark on Ronaldos shorts or Rooney who gets applause for helping defend but never bags enough goals as a striker for a club top of the PL.

I don't think you see my point dear. Anderson may probably not score an incredible 26 goals but he may put in performances that will be quite crucial for the team. The same with the others. Maybe the last year or so of Giggs and Scholes but so i'm sure they'll be up for it.

Nani is still a developing player but he's not far off from the starting eleven. Some of the games he's played he's been terrific. When Ronaldo came here 5 years ago he was just like Nani, we all knew that he was good but it took time for him to settle in and to become a player what he is today. I'm sure it's the same with Nani.

The thing what is worrying is we only have a certain amount of players who can really score/create goals. But the players who have been mentioned above all have the capability of doing it.

As i've said before in my previous post, we need a leader, we haven't got once since Keano. Carrick or Rio hasn't been up for the it.

In Rome you could see we never had leader to bring the team together, you see the Barcelona team and you can see they have leaders and that's what we are lacking.

ROFL man u fans seeeeeeeeething that their talisman has gone and trying to put a brave face on

Some Man United fans will be gutted some won't be. I don't think seeeething is the word which can/could describe feeling that United fans are feeling right now.

It would be the same if Torres/Gerrard or left....

Unlike Liverpool, we have/get players to for fill the boots of Ronaldo.
When Gerrard retires, i can't see Liverpool finding a player who is alike Gerrard, Liverpool have a difficult task ahead of them! :)

People must think about it like this, we are one of the sensible clubs in the world... Unlike Man City/Real Madrid, Chelsea - Who spend ridiculous amount of money on players who are like 27,28,29 and can only bring them a few seasons of glory.

At united we look to build for the future.... Not for a season or two! ;)

Wait what.

You truly need an out and out scorer. sure, bring tevez back. sign him for good! Then him, berbatov and rooney could hopefully get 26 goals between them. ^_^ If you don't get a player who can score like Ronaldo then you will not win the premier league. FACT.

He was first spotted by then-Liverpool (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Liverpool_F.C.) manager Gérard Houllier (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/G%C3%A9rard_Houllier) at 16, but Liverpool declined to take him on because they decided he was too young and needed some time to develop his skills.[11] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristiano_Ronaldo#cite_note-cr101-10) However, he came to the attention of Manchester United (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Manchester_United_F.C.) manager Alex Ferguson (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Alex_Ferguson) in the summer of 2003, when Sporting defeated United 3–1 in the inauguration of the Estádio José Alvalade (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Est%C3%A1dio_Jos%C3%A9_Alvalade) in Lisbon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Lisbon). Ronaldo's performance impressed the Manchester United players, who urged Ferguson to sign him.[12] (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cristiano_Ronaldo#cite_note-crwc-11)

People are quoting the name Ribery everywhere. Does anybody realise how much Ribery will cost. Bayern aren't a team to be pushed by anybody in a transfer. If they demand a fee they'll get it or the player's going nowhere. Expect around £50m if he is to be bought. Personally, I think Man Utd would be better off buying someone like Ashley Young and some striker who can score goals.

To the people saying about Sepp Blatter hating the English bla dee bla. Shut up. We all know he's anti-English but let's face it, Real Madrid are actually a big team. When people go to Man City it's different because Man City aren't a good team in the first place. Real Madrid are actually a decent team, okay maybe not at the moment, but they are a big club and players want to go to them. Maybe for the money but money is less of an issue than it would be going to Man City where it is pretty much 100% money when going to Real Madrid is slighty less as you can say that you have played for Real Madrid if you get me. :P

It's not ruining football - you have to think that 80m, most of it will go back into football - keeping the economic value of money in football the same. He's an amazing talent and I'm sad to see him go but everyone moves on, just like Beckham did. When Beckham went, everyone claimed that we would go down hill and all this, along came Ronaldo and put an end to that. We will do the same with whoever we sign next.

Take a look at Welbeck, he's a future star and I can't wait to watch him as he grows with us.

I reckon Ronaldo will get better at Ronaldo as he's going to be playing with the other 2 best players in the world, Kaka and Messi.

For Real, I would put:

Casillas

Metzelder, Cannavaro, Ramos, Heinze

Ronaldo, Kaka, Diarra (In Defensive Midfield), Sneijder, Robben

Raul

And then put Kaka and Sneijder as more attacking.

In my opinion, the only thing Madrid need to do now is buy one strong out and out striker like Villa, and a good Left Back, like Christian Chivu and they will potentially be the best team in the world.

They've just signed up a England international, a player commanding a £18,000,000 fee last summer for £12,000,000. Don't bring up De Jong because from what I understand he would of signed a new contract this summer and would of commanded a fee of around £20,000,000 and they would of faced competition from some top teams in England for him.
