Noticing all the skin threads around, i was wondering why habbox dont just hold a forum skinning competition and let the users give it a go :p
I know at least two who'd be interested, and this is without asking anyone :p
Its no secret habboxforum doesn't really have decent non-habbo skin and would be nice to get a new one (Currently i'm just restyling the default skin with stylish lol)
For simplicity just limit it to a css stylesheet, banner image and optional forum images (post markers ect), add a clause that none will be used if none are up to scratch, and with some luck a few decent developers may come out the woodwork and provided you with somthing quite nice without any real work being need on your end :)
Just an idea

I also suggested this in a very recent thread, got closed so I can't quote it.

Just realised that the picture looks like I've just written it on here, the background of the pic makes it blend in. :P

Only thing is they've got a banner competition and I think it's for all skins??? Would be slightly pointless making new skins if they're updating the others unless I've got the wrong end of the stick :S I still think it's a good idea though, I'd rather we got new ones than try make the other ones better because they're getting boring :( Anyway, habbox will only be gaining by doing so so why not

Well not to replace any of the current ones, but simply to add yet another alternative. Habbox staff are mostly pretty habbo oriented people, so habbo skins there good at. None habbo skins though, in my opinion at least, have generally been a bit of a flop. So getting some of the members to have a crack of it my finally get a decent skin for this nesh :p
@Mint: sounds good, didn't see your thread on it? sorry about that

Evidently (evidence being a) number of clients/money earned b) others opinions and excessive praise c) clear skill) devotedesigns doing a skin (Me + Xarea + Harry) would be one of the industry standard.
Yeah I'm big headed and admittedly some of the dd team are but it's true :P We excel at designs and skins (well and hosting/support!).
Anyway, it's a good idea but if it's limited to what the current habbox skins are then it's somewhat pointless. I know Habbox is security-savvy but popular and secure boards (no, I'm not on about Habbo ones) have very custom skins and still have never been compromised. It's a case of having technically skilled administrators (e.g. Jin) or people who can make sure the skins work with updated by working on them via test forums.

From what I can gather they don't want anymore skins, the reasoning is here: http://www.habboxforum.com/showthread.php?t=534588
I'm perfectly happy with the Retro Blue Skin to be fair :P

Duno the blue one seems pretty ugly to me. Would much prefer a nicer one, but reskinning dynamicly in stylish will do if not :p
@Favourtism: the need to edit the html template generally just denotes a lack of css skill?

You can't make **** unless you edit templates like showthread, forumhome etc so shush when you clearly have no idea. It's all fine and dandy making crap in the additional css box but why if you can't insert the divs or whatever in the templates :S

Additional css? i referring to creating a new css theme? There is plenty of markup to work with already, so unless you really do have incredibly poor css skills there should be no problem.
Although if it is just down to your lack of experience and general amateurish understanding of design and development techniques, it may not be in your best interests to simply whine and say people have no idea when they point this out. Instead, go learn css, it'll be much more helpful in the long run.

If you use the default css stuff then you still have them contained in <thead>'s and table rows making them look crap. When you learn to replace tables with div's (which vbulletin is also doing for v4) is when you get skins that don't look like the default crap that habbox and other vbulletin forums share (Structure etc).

Go learn about vBulletin.
Css is just as capable of styling a table as it is a div, the introduction of divs has nothing to do with limitations on styling, just better separation of it :)
Learn the basics of CSS/HTML/JS, then worry about specific software implementations like wordpress, IPB, VB, Joomla, phpBB, whatever else.
Anyway, if your not up to the challenge then so be it, i'm sure there are others who would be :)
From a member of staff point of view.
A) Stop the cat fight! You do need to edit templates for certain design aspects, no argument about it check with the established companies especially if you are moving certain objects around and adding in extra functionality.
B) My work load is already through the roof considering as I am looking after all 3.5 (hxl is still a site used for admin back end) websites, maintaining the current styles, maintaining the servers as well as managing new projects and dealing with future developments. Already I have a lot of miffed staff as I can never seem to meet deadlines as I am occupied dealing with priority issues.
On top of this I also deal with the bug tracker and user support via the ticket system, handling all SMS enquiries and issues (strictly for staff so don't pm me about when its going to be activated) and now also dealing with certain staffing issues.
C) Everytime we upgrade the forums I need to go through each customized template one by one decifering what has changed and having to add them in manually as reverting a template results losses in the design.
D) We have enough skins at the moment.
E) There are a few things in the making that I have the ball rolling on in the last 48 hours.
F) If we were to run one of these competitions it would probably have to be to replace a current style. Even so I would have to go through the style template by template to ensure that no malicious code has been passed into one of the templates that would open us to a liable attack a Job which I do not fancy doing.
OT: Mentor I am not sure what your skills are exactly but if it includes PHP and MySql then i may have a project for you that others have failed at in the past.
Drop me a PM if your interested.

I myself would like another non-habbo skin, with the 'who's viewing' gone it wouldn't have such a hit on the back-end...

I believe we set a ceiling on skins so for a new one to be added an old one would be deleted, most likely the space skin as that was the decision by popular vote (I should go see if it still is)
The issue is that most of our skins were created off of the parent skin of the Classic, so there is limited functionality. As Jin says, there's a lot for him to do and creating our own skin as a child skin of the Classic View would make things a lot easier.
