Break Wear

My mom has a 2007 Mercedes S550 and today when I was driving it the tire pressure monitor light came on and then "BREAK WEAR" popped up on the speedometer display. The car has almost 70,000 miles on it but thats all highway driving so it shouldn't need a brake job yet! The car was just in for a major service at the cost of $1200! Should I take it to Mercedes, or just get a cheap Walmart brake job?

i personally think you just post to show off, i think every thread you have made (about %90 are of you and some fancy new item).

Anyway, its obvious what to do, take it to the mercedes dealership.

I agree above.

Anyway if the breaks are wearing you're clearly breaking too frequently causing excessive wear. Take it to Merc and don't break as much.

maybe you should do what you think is best, and frankly quite obvious instead of posting on a forum where the majority are just below the driving age.

My Dad has a Merc and when it was 3 years old the official garage tried to charge him 16K for a full service.

My advice would be take it to the dealership and get a quote and then go elsewhere. My Pappy did and he got it all done for about 14 grand cheaper for the same sort of service.

Just because they're the official dudes it does not stop them from being cowboys!

He paid £2000 for a service? What?

It was a specialist thing as there was a fault with some of the front axels, add that onto new parts and it gets somewhere near the price.

Although I know some manufacturers only allow cars to be serviced by their own mechanics now.

i never take my car to the garage if I can help it. check the brakes yourself, then buy the discs and pads and fit 'em yourself.

It's CPO so it has a 100k mile warranty so I wouldn't want to jeopardize that! Adam, how hard would it be to jack the car up and do this myself?

If you have money then don't bother doing it yourself, you could either end up making things worse, hurt yourself, use the wrong parts or not fit the parts properly. Personally I would just take it to your local garage and see if they can fix it for a decent price. :)
