Security experts have discovered two novel forms of Mac OS X malware.
OSX/Tored-A - an updated version of the Mac OS Tored worm - and a Trojan called OSX/Jahlav-C were both found on popular pornographic websites.
Christopher Phin - deputy editor of Mac Format magazine - told the BBC that Mac users needed to be more aware of potential threats.
"The Apple community is guilty of peddling the line that they are removed from security issues.," he said
Mr Phin said that, for now, Mac users did not have the same need for anti-virus software that PC users did, although that could change in the future.
Bad day to be a mac...

Not for long... also at least PCs have anti-virus, if major viruses for macs are mad then you're screwed...

It's funny. Viruses like this happen thousands of times a day on Windows (because it's expected and assumed), but when one little virus gets out there for the Mac it's a huge deal:D. It's still the safest OS around;)

oh darn if only we had av.
If only THIS LINK http://www.clamxav.com/ was to a free AV app for the Mac.

We all know there's many Windows virus's every day, like you said, it's expected and assumed and also true :P
No one's doubting it's the safest OS around (Although I'd personally say Linux is but they're both way ahead of Windows).

Mac gets most of it's security because its built of unix.. so unix is really the safest!
omgDAN!

As far as viruses go then Windows is probably the safest because there are so many large organisations dedicated to making exceptional anti-virus software to stop the attacks.
Viruses can be written for UNIX and Mac, but they aren't distributed as Windows is more widespread.

Exactly, Mac users should be downplaying macs, they are their own downfall...

LOL. Um, no sorry. Even when I was a hardcore Windows user I wouldn't have put my faith behind Windows (infact i didn't, I always did my bank and paypal transactions on a linux machine).
OS X is safer. It's built off Unix, there's less users, so therefore less interest to develope viruses for it, antivirus for OS X is free.

There is so much wrong with what you said I wont even address it.

Tis true, OS X is made safer through the UNIX basecode. But come on? Use reputable porn sites at least! sheesh! LOL

Mac users wouldn't have this problem if they stayed off the porn!

I'm pretty sure I blogged that OS X isn't UNIX at all, it's just UNIX compatible.

ho hum
Since 2001, the breakthrough technologies and rock-solid UNIX foundation of Mac OS X have made it not only the world’s most advanced operating system but also extremely secure, compatible, and easy to use. Snow Leopard continues this innovation by incorporating new technologies that offer immediate improvements while also smartly setting it up for the future.

No, *BSD is a UNIX like system, it's changed so much it's not even UNIX anymore.
It is however UNIX compliant. That doesn't make it UNIX no matter how much Apple marketing idiots would love to make you believe it is.
