The United Nations Security Council has approved tough new sanctions against North Korea over its recent nuclear test.

The resolution imposes new restrictions on the country's weapons exports and financial dealings, and allows inspections, seizure and destruction of suspect cargo in ports and on the high seas although it does not authorise the use of force.
The sanctions will have "teeth to bite" but Pyongyang could react "in a fashion thatwould be further provocation," the US envoy to the United Nations Susan Rice warned.
All 15 members endorsed a resolution sponsored by Britain, France, Japan, South Korea and the United States.
Significantly, both China and Russia, which had been reluctant to support punitive measures against North Korea in the past, supported the resolution, which is now binding under international law.
Britain's UN deputy ambassador Philip Parham said the unanimous adoption of the text showed the international community was united in condemning North Korea's proliferation activities.
"We urge North Korea to refrain from any further provocative actions," he added.
"North Korea should return to the negotiating table and engage seriously with the international community."

The compromise resolution "condemns in the strongest terms" the North Korean nuclear test and "demands that the DPRK (North Korea) not conduct any further nuclear test or any launch using ballistic missile technology."
It declares that Pyongyang "shall abandon all nuclear weapons and existing nuclear programmes in a complete, verifiable and irreversible manner and immediately cease all related activities."
North Korea has previously warned it would consider any sanctions a declaration of war and would respond with "due corresponding self-defense measures."
A more likely response would be the reported assessment by US intelligence officials to President Barack Obama that Pyongyang intends to respond to a UN resolution condemning its actions with another nuclear test.
Asked about how the Council would react to any new North Korean test, Mr Parham said: "We would take it badly. But we can't speculate now (on the council response). Our emphasis has to be on implementing this resolution as effectively as possible."
North Korea launched a long-range missile in April, which was roundly condemned by the Security Council.
Pyongyang then retaliated by announcing on May 25 it had staged a second nuclear weapons test, following one in 2006.
It also has declared the armistice ending the 1950-53 Korean War as void.

For anyone who doesn't know the history of the UN and N Korea. That 'Tough Sanctions' is like a little slap on N Koreas hand and N Korea will continue doing what they do, it makes no difference because the UN is a peice of crap when it comes to N Korea overall.

N Korea's New Nuke Threat After UN Sanctions

Kim Jong Il's embattled regime delivered a predictably belligerent response to yesterday's imposition of new UN sanctions.

North Korea (http://indepth.news.sky.com/InDepth/topic/North_Korea) said it would immediately "weaponise" all its plutonium stocks and start enriching uranium and warned that any blockade of its vessels would be considered an act of war.
The measures announced by the Foreign Ministry in Pyongyang came hours after the UN Security Council slapped tough new sanctions on the regime.
This will further ramp up tensions in this already volatile region with US intelligence sources warning that North Korea could launch another test missile over the next 48 hours.

According to Fox News, US intelligence has also warned President Obama (http://indepth.news.sky.com/InDepth/topic/Barack_Obama) that North Korea intends to respond to the imposition of UN sanctions by carrying out another underground nuclear test and launching a third Taepodong 2 long range missile.
On Monday North Korea said it would respond to any new sanctions with "corresponding self - defense measures".
The North said it would use nuclear weapons in a "merciless offensive" if provoked.
The new sanctions which were passed unanimously toughen an already existing arms embargo and authorise ship searches on the high seas to combat the sale of ballistic missiles.

It is believed that Pyongyang earns more than $1.5bn in missile sales to countries such as Syria, Pakistan and Iran.

North Korea has said it will view any sanctions as a declaration of war and boycotted yesterday's vote in the United Nations.
Unusually the sanctions were backed by China (http://indepth.news.sky.com/InDepth/topic/China) and Russia (http://indepth.news.sky.com/InDepth/topic/Russia), the North's closest allies, an indication of the depth of international disapproval for recent actions by North Korea.
Last month it thumbed its nose at the Security Council when it detonated a second underground nuclear weapon and fired off a flurry of short range missiles.
China's UN Ambassador Zhang Yesui said the resolution demonstrates the international community's "firm opposition" the nuclear test.
Zhang said the resolution also "sends a positive signal" by showing the Council's determination to resolve the issue "peacefully through dialogue and negotiations."

This guy really does worry me...

Didn't they say there would be war if they stoped ships?

Yeah, it's funny because N Korea are all in there big heads that they can do what they want... It's a shame the US have got spy planes all over N Korea and if we stopped the ships by the time they got all the Nuke peices the US would of blown it to bits.

Oh yeah, if anyone isn't aware. N Korea has no jets, they got old World War planes that will survive about 6 seconds in the air. So really there is no need to be worried, just S Korea, China should be worried.

The US will stop any ship they see and when they do, well its likely he will fire some rockets but its a consequence that has to be taken if we are to stop nuclear weapon trading.

Your posts strike me as though you've hidden yourself away in a bunker with a laptop somewhere. But then you make posts like the above.

It was only a couple of weeks ago that everyone was worried that the world would be over by now, it's still here and still will be. For the past 60 years their whole relationship has been like this.

There's no chance of them nuking China as they'd be no reason to, it's their only remaining alley. If the US actually knew where all their Nuclear Weapons were or if they had any chance of them firing, I'm sure they'd be totally obliterated so I assume the Americans either can't find them or don't see them as a threat.

Their air force is old but it's not World War era by any means, they've got quite a lot of Soviet fighters from the 70s.

The US Army General has already told us that if they put them in the air against the US jets then they will be down in 6 seconds.

If N Korea fired a Nuke the US would shoot it not long after but it would be china and around there having to deal with aftermast of it. Yeah if the US know where it is, it would take N Korea sometime to put all of it together of which then the US, if they can see it, will destroy it.

N.Korea don't have missiles that can reach the USA so thy are not worrying, they are scared that they will go for someone like s Korea or japan, and china are scared that if a war did break out, millions of people from n.Korea would flood into their country.
