Microsoft is poised to start giving away security software
The company is reportedly trialling free anti-virus software internally and said the beta version would be released "soon".
Called Morro, the software will tackle viruses but lack the broader range of utilities, such as parental locks, found in paid-for security suites.
Discuss!
(Screw you Macs, we don't need to stray away from our OS makers anymore either)

I didn't think Anti-Virus' had parental locks :S Aren't they called security suites?
I'd probably get the usual, although will probably have a poke around this anyway. Depends on my mood really.

It's BBCs wording, they aren't very tech wise. Vista & se7en already have parental control...

I suppose it's like another addon for Windows Defender but in a completely different program.

windows defender sucks balls theres no point in it even being their. :/

I disable defender on my Vista and 7 systems anyway.
And TBH, I think it shows how much they fail at security/antivirus software. They do/did have a commercial anti-virus, but it sucked and no one bought it. Now they have to give it away for people to use it.
To be fair, Windows Defender isn't terrible, I'd just rather not have it using system resources unnecessarily when I have no need for it.

Wasn't there anti-virus called Windows OneCare Suite, or something along those lines?
Anyway yeah it sucked cause no one ever used it.

As much as I hate to be a troll, seeing you type 7 as "se7en" is kinda getting irritating. As far as I know (and please correct me if I'm wrong), microsoft has never used that spelling of it as anything other than an internal code name like they did with Longhorn and Vienna. I've seen it as "Seven" and "7" on official microsoft press releases and write ups on websites and stuff and thats the way it should be written.

Anyway, if this new antivirus is anything like the crap they bundle in with operating systems it won't even be worth taking a second glance at. I wouldn't trust a company that makes a browser with such glaring security holes to protect my computer.

A while back they were calling it se7en, it just stuck for me...
