They are building a new robot which will cost 850million to send to mars to see if life existed there.

I understand that they want to expand their knowledge of other planets and the solar system, but I sometimes feel that this money is being wasted, especially at times like this when the country is in recession and the goverment is trying to find money to run the country.

What do you think?

i think we shud just nuke the planets then we know theres no life problem ova

na its a disgrace 850m could help boost the economy =/

I was actually thinking about this today funnily enough lol.

Imeen it obviously is vital we continue space exploration and we cannot bring everything to a standstill, but at the end of the day so many different countries now have so much money put into this it's turning more into who can build the bigger and better satelites quicker rather than to meet the actual purpose of exploration.

I think it is a disgrace they can try and justify 800 and odd million pounds to look into other planets and get some pictures and stuff, meanwhile the one in which we actually inhabit is falling apart itself as we speak/

What are they going to do if they find an living organism the size of an ant?
Build a 3 billion pound machine to try and bring it back to Earth? rofl.

i totally agree. i find space discovery fascinating, but given the state of the economy.. its unnecessary and excessive atm.
i value human lives much more then i do a little bit of mars.
the majority of governments around the world have pretty ****** up priorities if you ask me.

Research has already proved that human's couldnt live on Mars.
I dont see what else, for the time being, could be more important then the lives of millions of people suffering from poverty..
Don't get me wrong, I'm all about considering the future, but I think the government also has a responsibility to the people who are here right now.

How long have we got to go on Earth?

How long have we got to go on Earth?

Looking at the amount of money they seem to be spending lately, they probably made themselves think the Earth will blow up in 20 years.

Seriously spending money on Mars is stupid. What are they going to do even if they do find something living there? I am sure humans cant live there, not for millions of years anyway.

I would probably prefer it if they spent that money trying to find a new way to seeing if they can reduce global warming and reducing the O-Zone layer. But spending it on Mars etc is a waste of money. Whats worse is that they use our money and dont even tell us what they find most of the time.
