Tim Burton remaking Alice in Wonderland was announced at least a year ago from what I can remember. But anyway, some pictures have been released today, and as expected from Tim Burton its quite eccentric. Along with Tim Burton regulars, Johnny Depp and Helena Bonham-Carter, Anne Hathaway, Matt Lucas and Stephen Fry also star (the latter providing a voice rather than appearance).
Johnny Depp (The Mad Hatter)

Anne Hathaway (White Queen)

Helena Bonham-Carter (Red Queen)

Looking good to me, can't wait to see pictures of Matt Lucas as Tweedle Dee and Tweedle Dum ;D

I dislike Tim Burton in general and I don't much agree with the casting (Helena Bonham-Carter is hardly scary enough or big enough to play the Queen of Hearts and the only queen Anne Hathaway looks like in that picture is a drag queen) but I guess we'll have to wait and see

No matter what he makes the character looks like its gonna have to have substance.
Its starting to annoy me how Burton uses his squeeze and his best chum in all his pictures, broaden your horizons Tim!
I loved films like Ed Wood but Willy Wonka and Sweeney Todd did nothing for me. Heres to hoping.

Self-indulgent casting. He can't use Depp and Helen in every damn film he makes. When's he next going to make a film that is purely original? Charlie and the Chocolate Factory stunk, and Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street was one of the worst Hollywood productions I've seen in recent years. He seems to have lost the talent he had when he made Batman.

Yeah he can! I loved Sweeney Todd it was well lush. Obviously just a different taste in films, but then again I like pretty much most things cus Im not really there to critique every minute of it. If its entertaining its good in my books, and this looks like it'll be a hoot!

I sat down to enjoy it. I despise musicals but thought that if I could like one it would probably be a Tim Burton production of Sweeney Todd, but I couldn't bare the songs. The lyrics were awful. I would have much rather prefered it not to have been a musical. The TV film with Ray Winstone blew Burton's out of the water.

I thought Sweeney Todd was alright, but I'm really getting tired of Tim Burton films. They're doing nothing new and his styles getting old. I'll definitely be avoiding Alice in Wonderland.

Interesting, can't wait :)
I despise people who make assumptions based on the persons works in the past. The pictures look amazing and colourful. Tim burton films have actually been quite good, as mentioned mars attacks!! ha, loved that film, nightmare before christmas, edward scissorhands, and sweeney todd was alright.
ok yes, he could change his actors but it doesnt really bother me that much. Its another film at the end of the day and if the casting reflects the movies he makes then why not? jonny depp adds a sense of, 'darkness' say and helena is a great actress and she proves that in many films.
I wont go to the cinema to watch this film but will see it on DVD.

Yes, the lyrics are from the stage show, but they are just so clumsily written.
Tim Burton has made some great films, you are right, Batman and Batman Returns are both fantastic, and Sleepy Hollow and Mars Attacks are similarly decent, however since Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, he seems transfixed on using the same style for each film he makes. If you look at the costumes for the aforementioned picture, Sweeney Todd: The Demon Barber of Fleet Street, and now Alice in Wonderland, they're the same. I just feel he's lost his muse.

Just to try and add a bit of substance to that rather unfavourable bump lol; when I first saw the trailer, as soon as I saw the Mad Hatter character (even from behind I think), I automatically thought I bet it's Johnny Depp. In support of Tim Burton criticisms earlier in the thread - surely a character such as this should be somewhat unique and imaginative rather than so easily associated with the actor's previous roles. I haven't seen many Burton films but I've realised that what I thought was a disliking towards Johnny Depp may actually be a disliking to (recent) work by Tim Burton.
i suppose you know that pretty much any new tim burton film features jonny depp in some way or another :P

Well as I say, I'm not too familiar with his work but I gained that conclusion from reading the thread at least

I can't believe Mars Attacks! has been brought up multiple times yet Big Fish hasn't even been mentioned. I'm not a fan of Tim Burton, but I personally think Big Fish is one of the best films ever made. It is by far the directors best film in my opinion.
Inseriousity.

hehe and helena bonham carter but I think she's amazing so it's okay!
Can you imagine their convos around the dinner table? :p
Just recently watched Willy Wonka, Burton's remake (for some weird reason) and it's really irritating! Looks like Johnny Depp just watched Michael Jackson for his research!
So I'm hoping he's not going to try and ruin this one too but judging by the pictures, it's definitely gonna be... er... different. Whether it works or not, we shall see! :)

johnny depp sucks and over analyses everything, the thing i'm most excited for is the red and white queens
The only good films Burton has made/produced in the last ten years are.
- Corpse Bride
- Big Fish (Forrest Gump ripoff but who cares._

Johnny Depps characters in these sort of fantasy films seem even more alike than Adam Sandler's roles.

Lmao yeah, he's like a less giddy MJ :P
It's a story following one man recounting his life to someone else, and he meets a giant man and they go shrimp farming... that's Big Fish right.
Hard to name the similarities, but it's on the same lines of Forrest, it runs parallel almost. Instead of the whole 'leg crutches', Edward gets big.
Forrest becomes a American football hero, Edward plays lots of sports.

Haven't liked a Burton film since Mars Attacks!. He really needs to ditch his new cartoony style and go make some original films.

Yes I don't like the cartoonly style. Rather have a film with a bit more subtance.

I see how people can consider it similar to Forest Gump, but really both films are very different.
