Right I have a iPhone 3G (black, so none of the 'white iphone crack' theory), and it has a 2cm crack running from the dock port connector, up to just underneath the 'iPhone 3G 16GB' writing on the back. I have not caused this crack, and after research it's a common fault in iPhone 3G's, I have had the iPhone for 6 months and have not dropped it a single time.

I Googled this, and found this thread; http://discussions.apple.com/thread.jspa?messageID=7751448

They say Apple/AT&T, will replace it, free of charge, but I was wondering, is this available to do in the UK? as I'd be pretty annoyed driving 30mile to the Birmingham Apple shop to find out that it won't be replaced, or should I take it to o2 and see what they say? (and If I ask nicely do you think they'd give me a white iPhone as a replacement? or is that to cheeky? :P if you don't ask, you don't get, rite?)

What should I do? what would you advise me to do?

Thanks for your help in advance! :)

you should be able to call apple up or online to see what they say and request a repair is plausible. then they send you a box, and then you post your item to them.

I read that in the US their is a £20 option where they send you a replacement iPhone 3G and then you send them you're faulty iPhone, is this the case in the UK?

i don't have a clue regarding that. the best way is just to call them up. you'll get the best answers there really. but usually if you send the item back and they can't fix it, they'd replace it.

Really your best bet is to call up Apple Care (0870 876 0753) and explain your problem, they are normally very helpful and will tell you how to proceed. Sometimes though, the best bet is to go into the store and explain your problem.

I faced a similar problem but with my macbook case cracking, I phoned apple care and then visited the store once they told me that it would be fixed.

Is that Apple care number a free-phone number?

Is that Apple care number a free-phone number?
0870 isn't a freephone number, so no.

Can you please link me? I just tried it and it said I need AppleCare or something, even though I have insurance (with apple) on my iPhone until mid-December.

If you have insurance then its going to get fixed. Take it to o2 and they will send it to apple OR you can drive to your apple show with the insurance stuff and they will do it there for you, free of course.

I'm really glad I got the crack on the back, dropped my iPhone for the first time ever today, had it for 7 months, now I have to scratches on the front screen and a black mark underneath the screen, phoned Apple today and the crack on the back is a "common design fault" and that I should arrange a meeting on the Apple website and go up Monday/Tuesday, and just say that I haven't dropped it and I'll get a replacement their and then.

Problem is, mines that 16GB black model, and the 16gb IPHONE 3G models are ment to be discontinued now that the 3GS is out...

Dunno what to think, should get a replacement either way though.
