How comes we don't have 'friends list' on our profiles?

You need friends to have one of them.

Na , but i why do you even need one? If someone likes you on the forum you would know you don't need a list to prove it lol.

I think he means more in the way that when people view your profile they know who you are friends with. Just another community feature in the hope to bring it closer, i guess.

I cant imagine ever bothering to maintain one myself unless there was some sort advantage to doing so "/ But if people think they'll use it, then may as well ad it if it aint to much work.

its one of those things which will be used a lot in the first few days/weeks, then after that it'd become a forgotten feature.

Only people on my contacts are myself and Tom I think, and it would just become some sort of contest as to how many friend lists you can get on

Mhmmm I believe this is the original reason why we disabled social networking on the forums. It seems everything turns more or less into a competition on the forums.

Post Counts, Join Date, Rep Points

Last thing I want to see in signatures is "f/r me and I will rep you" or some crap like that.

But in real life everybody competes for those things anyway. it's being human.

We all want to be better than the next person do we not? So to determine that we have certain criteria such as education (grades), diplomas, job titles, website status (owner) and forum miscs.

If somebody came up to and asked if you could change your sign up date to what ever then what would it be? Most people would pick earlier to show off to other members they have been here for a long time.

The same principle is with reputation. The more green bars and power the better to show other members you have more reputable. You don't have a reputation to now show it off otherwise what is the point is the system all together.

Posts count is also the same, you want to have the highest post count on what ever forum you sign up too. Personally post count shows how experienced you are around these forums and technically defines your popularity because you don't have 10,000 posts and unpopular. (unless the oldies left and it's just newbies)

I don't like how the primarily reason is "competition". Every human being is at competition to somebody they know or them selves. If you weren't then screw the grading system, screw schooling, screw money.

I think it's healthy if people compete against each other to be on x amount of friend list because it gets the community together and brings a closer vibe with lowering rule breaking as more people are friends the less likely to be insults occurring etc.

What harm can it do? People asking for friends in exchange for reputation?

Do what you did with the reputation then, stop it from happening. I tnink this is a good feature for thoise who care for it. For those who don't then they simply don't use it. It's like with the repuattion, a lot of people see it pointless but a handfull still use it.
