The piracy corner of the internet is imploding and I'm loving every minute of it. When it's gone there will always be usenet and topsites :8

They have just gone back on many things that they said they stood against. Money always wins. :/

One of the comments:
"According to the news articles I read, the TPB owners got enough to pay off the judgment and have about $1millionUS each left over for themselves. The TPB crew is cashing out and leaving the site behind to get napsterized into ruins."

I don't know if it's true, but if it is then what freakin' sell outs.

Money dictates. Simple.

It's not a lot of money though :S.

Yeah I just read this on Engadget.

Kinda sucks. The owners have gone against a lot of what they've said by selling out.

Wow, they stood up and took the penalty for it and now look what they've done.

Ironically I did make a forum post yesterday saying The Video Bay would probably be the end to TPB as we know it, I am kind of right but I wasn't expecting to be right so soon :P

(Hopefully I can predict my lottery numbers just as well)

Still though, it does surprise me a bit and I imagine the music industry will feel it's like a victory but everyone will just go elsewhere meanwhile someone lost 8 Million Dollars on The Pirate Bay which is already down...

The Pirate Bay has been purchased and is perhaps looking to go legit. Software company Global Gaming Factory X AB has shelled out approximately US$7.8 million for the site. The acquisition appears to be the first step into turning The Pirate Bay into a legal site. The Stockholm-based piracy site is a peer-to-peer server which made video games, movies and music available for "sharing" among users. Swedish police previously raided the The Pirate Bay and those connected to the site, and the ensuing trial against the BitTorrent site's founder resulted in a guilty verdict.
The news seems to be bouncing around many news sites.

I'm not paying to use Usenet. Wouldn't it be pretty easy to get caught:eusa_wall?

No, SSL encryption and peering with networks with carrier neutral status.

I'll be honest I haven't looked into Usenet very much, not after I found out you have to pay for server access.

Is there any cheap server access? The cheapest I've seen is $10 a month.

And how is availability of usenet files compared to torrents?

If it's on Usenet and less than 365 days old it'll be there, with parity and full speed all day every day, the only limit is you.

All the major Usenet providers mirror with each other, so you're guaranteed at least 99% completion (every post on Usenet combined).

I'd go with this: http://www.news.astraweb.com/specials/kleverig-11.html

It's what I use and it's fabulous in every way.

Ninja edit:
If you're on about availability as in files released then you want Usenet, everything but music has a good standing on Usenet, not sure why music is flaky but there is usually good stuff there. Films, Games, Programs all go to Usenet before torrents.

Topsites > Usenet (sometimes private trackers) > Private trackers > Public trackers

I say it goes on the more secluded private trackers before usenet more times than it hits usenet first these says. We are talking minutes or even seconds though. Thing with usenet is it's available at high speed as soon as it's on there, with torrents it's going to be a few minutes (depending on size) before the swarm gets going for it to be at high speed. I don't grab scene stuff usually anyway, I go for internal encodes of stuff that's out a few hours to a day later. What's a few hours when you can get noticeably better quality for the same file size? Usenet only has scene releases right?
