Firefox 3.5 has finally been officially released and can be downloaded from the link below :)
Its apparently the same version as the rc3 and since i was to lazy to use any will be the first, hopefully far more speedy version of ff to land on my pc :p

As mentioned by jordy: https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6543 should help get old extensions working in ff3.5 straight off the bat :)

Seems quite nice, only visual difference i have is the new add tab button on the tab bar. Gmail loads a good bit faster too which is always a good sign :p
Also i was suprised to see pretty much every addon i have works perfectly on 3.5 without any need to update (or the foce addons to work extention) which is always good :P

Downloaded, Installed & Running!
Seems to be a bit faster at first glance will have to do some everyday use to tell properly though.

with some tweaks it runs almost as fast as chome, it might persuade me to go back to firefox especially as opera seems to have been going backwards in terms of speed

Firebug/dev tool bar etc keep me from switching, especially since the speed difference is so small now.

Screw you guys, I'ma usin' mah Firefox 3.6 Alpha one!
Only thing is, it is branded as 'minefield' perhaps it is based off minefield code?

Edit: Thanks for the nightly tools link, great for every addon which doesn't work with nightly builds

I rather like the pr0nz mode it's surprisingly good, I hadn't used one up till now and now there's no going back :P
I find Google Mail and Google Reader to be much faster also, I imagine it's because they use AJAX which relies heavily on Javascript?

Aye, they rewrote ... or got a new javascript engine that has made things like google docs and such faster.

It seems good. The only thing I have a dislike to with 3.5 is the "Colour correction". It made the images posted on the forum look too dark or high in contrast sadly. So I had to turn it off. :].

I just downloaded it and the only real difference I have is that gmail is a bit faster and there's a + button next to tabs for new tabs. I didn't see ths auto-colour correction thingy?

I only noticed it as when I was posting a photo on here it was much darker then it showed up on programs such as Photoshop. At first I thought it was my Photoshop settings but after switching to Google Chrome I noticed it was fine. :S. So I google searched it and 3.5 comes with it enabled as default.
https://developer.mozilla.org/@api/deki/files/3218/=iccsample.jpg
Although support for color correction was introduced in Firefox 3, it was disabled by default, requiring some tinkering about in the about:config window to enable it. Firefox 3.5 addresses the issues that caused it be disabled by default in the previous version, and now images with International Color Consortium (ICC) tagging are, by default, color corrected.
^ Might look fine there but it wasn't for me :(.

Does it save new passwords? Like it's automatically on sites so you don't have to type them up?

They have a faster javascript engine. And also, I don't think I'll be using html 5 yet. IE6 doesn't support it... Will it ever?

Keeps crashing for me.I've had problems, it often just closes and sometimes locks up, it's particularly annoying tbh.

Firefox 3.5 is a buggy pile of ass compared to 3.0, not impressed.Indeed, I've noticed a slight improvement from the update in the past few days (3.5.2). I won't even consider changing browser though due to Safari, IEs and Opera's "badness" and Google Chromes slow support for add-ons and lack of features.

So what's the verdict, should I be downloading this or not? And if I do, how do I turn off the image corrector thing Matt pointed out (I believe he said the older version prevented it automatically correcting them but this 3.5 allows it)?

Don't download it, get it in a month or two when it is more secure. It has already had two updates in a short time which means there are many holes to come probably.
Also the reason why FF before 3.5.1 was slow is because it was creating temporary folders for pseudo-random data for encryption e.t.c.

Same - slow boot was windows issue only. Plus 3.5 is more secure than 3, not less o.0

Ahh, I wondered if it was a wide spread problem (the slow booting). It took ages for Firefox to open :/ Also, what's this about audio/video tags? It's not been clear to me what it does :/

It is insecure because it is new and not all exploits have been found, where as 3.0 has been around for a while meaning there are less security holes in it.

Surely the opposite is the same here too? 3.0 has been around for longer, thus people have had a longer time to find holes - 3.5 hasn't been around for too long, so less security flaws have been found out? Both sides sort of have their issues, the only problem with new releases are reliability and any holes that have been re-opened that were fixed in previous releases.

The latest one is fine, 3.0 (or 3.5 before the update, can't remember) took ages to load.

No, because more of the holes which were ever there have been patched.
If you need convincing then listen to the "Security Now" Podcast (Between episode 203 and 207)

Update to 3.5.2 and it fixed (booting) - plus audio/video tags mean browser can play video and audio without any plugins etc. So no fat slow flash to load, just video decoded directly via the browser :D
3.5 is based on 3.0, most the security holes in it where in 3.0 as well :)
