Anyone?
Quite a well known novel and I'm currently reading it, just wondering if anyone else has.

Yeah, my Literature teacher said I should read it quite a while ago for some light reading. Just got around to it, decent novel up to now.

I know a lot of alternative kids (annoying attention seeking etc people) read it and are like "omg Im Holden Caulfield" sp? but the writing style and the way the plot is stretched so finely over a short period of time is something really special.
Also an extremely personal book from an author whos a total recluse so its almost like your reading into Sallingers mind.

"I thought what I'd do was, I'd pretend I was one of those deaf-mutes. That way I wouldn't have to have any goddam stupid useless conversations with anybody. If anybody wanted to tell me something, they'd have to write it on a piece of paper and shove it over to me. They'd get bored as hell doing that after a while, and then I'd be through with having conversations for the rest of my life."
That's the only paragraph I know from the novel, I don't even know what its about, but that paragraph alone makes me want to read it. I'm going on holiday soon, perhaps it would make good travel-reading.

Yeah I read it because I wanted to read something light yet interesting for my holiday. Ended up reading the entire thing on flight over.
Loved it.

Yeah Luke, I can imagine many teenagers have this illusion that their life mirrors Caulfield. I don't know much about Sallinger myself, will read over later.

yeah the catcher in the rye is definitely one of my favorite novels ever. some people hate it though, they just think its a book of complaints. its really not though, its a personal story, and even though its kinda lame for people to try to liken themselves to holden caulfield you really can't help but relate. its definitely a book to read when youre a teenager.
and yeah sallinger is a crazy dude. he's done very little other than catcher in the rye.
