So he's been 21 for the past 2 years? He's obviously gotten older since that photo considering he hasn't played properly for 2 years.

From teenager to young adult. You'd be surprised by the change especially in the latter years of puberty and growth. I do agree he looks a bit 'meaty' but that's what can happen - that and the fact he hasn't played any football for 2 years.
