I know for GCSEs and 6th form/college students results come in August. Are you nervous/excited about yours?

How do you think you did?

Probs bout average, maybs an A and 2 B's perhaps a little better.

I know A levels is 20th August, are GCSE's earlier or later?

GCSEs are always a week later so they'll be on the 27th. I'm in year 12 at the moment. I've done like 50% of my sociology and psychology with 2 A grades. I've got English Lit coursework results back, which is 40% of overall grade and got an A also. Fourth choice is History... no clue as of yet. That was 100% June exams. Fingers crossed.

For my GCSE's last year, I wasn't expecting good grades but I ended up getting 5 A*'s, 4 A's and 2 B's :] woo. This year I've only done exams for my AS Maths cos in my national diploma, it's 100% coursework.

I'm gonna say I did crap because in January, I felt really good and got Cs. A C is okay but because I was feeling confident, it was a disappointment so yeah I did crap (don't even need to pretend for French though, terrible exams :(). I'm not gonna predict but here's hoping for a nice examiner! :D

i'm mixed feeling really.

don't think I gave the correct amount of preperation so really let myself down there. but the a levels I wanted to do have really low requirements, so that won't be a problem. I'm hoping majority B's although I know I could have easily got A in most given I prepared.

my head of year was always going on about revising, people always said you'd regret it if you didn't do a lot, but at the time I thought the hour a night was fine. then having 10 weeks off after exams, I think there's no reason why that couldn't have been 2 3 or 4 hrs.

Immenseman
04-07-2009, 10:47 PM
regardless of how much you revise i always find you will look back and think you could have done that little bit more. at the time you didn't want to and that's understandable, revising isn't fun. i hardly revised for my gcses and still got 10 A-C so it's kk.

Don't worry too much about getting your results, you can always stay back (if your sixth form allows it) and take your resits, also it reflects badly when you get yourself so worked up and it doesn't make the days move any quicker :P. I know I got really worked up and started snapping at people at random, then when it came to getting my results I just didn't care, I basically wore myself out :(, I wasn't even excited to get into sixth form. It just sets you up for further failure if you get poor results or a pessimistic outlook if you get positive results. Also GCSE's really aren't that important, they're just to get you into further education etc. they're a lot like A-levels, only they're worth a bit more since they're the qualifications to get you into uni.

Anyways, I got my results for uni I think a couple of weeks ago, I got a 2.1 (1st year), so I'm hoping you all get good results as well, good luck!

I'm not particularly looking forward to getting my a-level results. I need 3 A's to meet my Uni offer and I'm only confident I've got an A in one of my subjects. The other two are a bit meh. One I'm about 70% an A, 30% a B and the other about 30% an A, 70% a B so oh dear :(.

Im relying on A's in ICT, Religion and Digital Media (double) to get me back into 6th form.
The only thing that worries me is that my Digital Media teacher was a complete stoner and he might have given us the wrong stuff to work on, he was also my english teacher. I need either English/Maths to get back in, I got an A in my english cwk but Im bad at the exams. I also needed 50% in my maths test to bag a C but Im bad at maths so I doubt I got it

Geography if i drop more then 4 marks my teacher is making us re-take so LOL.

I think i'm only getting one result i can't re-take which is my full GCSE PE and i went into the exam with an A so i would have had to go horribly wrong to get anything lower then A*.

This time next year it will be a diffrent story though when im waiting for my weaker subjects like French

I'm thinking I did ok for my GCSEs. I'm hoping I don't get a B or below, but I'm fine with RE being a B and I think my Physics might have dropped down to a B :(

As for my AS Maths result, I'm really hoping it's a B as that means I can go onto A2 next year, a year early, and re-take the AS at the same time, if I get a C it means I have to retake the AS Maths year again even though I know all the stuff, it's just a fact of revising more :/

Yes. So all in all, I'm hoping for good results.

I've already got 3 A*-C GCSEs anyway, so that pratically guarantees my sixth form place... Just need two more :)

I was tempted to do Sociology next year, I wasnt sure whether it would be a good course to do (Considering ive already got a GCSE in it and they told me its very similiar).

Personally I think my GCSE's went good overall, I made a few silly mistakes in History but because my coursework in my subjects is A/A* i think even with the mistakes I can still hope to recieve a good grade.. Im quite nervous though as in my mocks i did quite well and i'd be so unhappy if i got lower than them! 27th feels like ages away, I just wanna get them over with and then go to 6th form! My best exams by far were Sociology, English and ICT. One subject I fail at is Maths and im really hoping for a B, if i get a B i will actually 'IRL' jump for joy.

A-level results day is two Thursdays before the August bank holiday, which is the same as two Thursdays before the last Monday in August. Thus, 2008 and 2009 both fit this pattern. It just happens that the bank holiday this year is also the last day in august, so its so damn late. :(

I don't know whether to check track first, or just go get my results and not bother checking online before hand.

August 25th - We get mailed our English & Maths results.
August 27th - We go to the school and collect the rest of our results.
I need 10 points to get back into school plus a pass in either English/Maths

I'm ******** it.

Best case Scenario I get:

Physics - A
Maths - A
Psychology - A

Which means I get in to my firm choice uni.

Worst case (which I think is likely as I screwed up some of my exam papers):

Physics - A
Maths - B
Psychology - B

Which means I don't get in to my insurance choice (AAB) either and I'm screwed. I'm really hoping for AAB so I at least get in to my insurance and then I can phone my firm choice and see if there's any lee-way and persuade them into letting me in anyway.

I got my CIE GCSEs back last Friday:

Economics: A*
English Literature: A
English Language: A*
Biology: A*
Chemistry: A*
Physics: A*

Including the ones I got last year (French, German, Chinese and Maths), I'm at 9 A*s and 1 A, with Geography coming out on the 27th. I think basically all my classmates got either the same for English language and English literature or the latter better. Somehow I'm the only person with language better than literature...

english paper 2 - d (43)
i might resit that though

ict paper 1 - b (76)
ict paper 2 - d (58)
might resit paper 2 if i can just resit one

psychology paper 1 - c (68)
psychology paper 2 - d (57)
im dropping psychology anyway and didnt care about it by the time exams came and did better in that than english when i tried??

media coursework - a (80/100)
media exam - d (54/100)
i knew id do well in the coursework though cus i spent ******* ages on it. might resit exam though. unless i have to redo coursework aswell

was expecting better tbh.
but in one day i had 3 exams so that's partly to blame. stuck in a freezing cold room from 9 til half 4 and only going out once to go to the toilet? well i blame that anyway for my ict paper 2, psychology paper 2 and english paper 2 :)

AQA. But my bad results are on the class really. Because we're in Year 11 we had to take it early, but the whole class didn't want to take it. So our class was split into two. 8 of us, including me, did AS Maths with GCSE Statistics. We only got 2 lessons a week doing AS Maths, where I think if I do it again next year (which is most likely since B is crap) then I'll get 4 lessons a week.

So, I think a B is reasonable for having half the class time, our teacher was off all winter term because his son passed away, and my bad retake was because I had Core 2 straight before the Core 1 exam :P

So I'm retaking the whole AS, I'll have much more class time, I already know my stuff aswell, it's just that I need to revise more :)

I'm in Year 11 as well and planning to do further AS. Do you know the procedures of getting a remark?

My friend in Year 12 got 300/300 for Edexcel physics X.X

Thats awesome to get 300/300 lol. I know a dude who got 600/600 in computing, and 570+/600 in his other 4 A Levels!

To get a remark you need to get a form, fill it in with unit details etc. and tick various boxes on whether you want to receive a photocopy of a remarked paper, you can't ask for a copy of original script though if your having a remark for obvious reasons. :P

You get your money back if the grade changes on the module. I had a physics paper remarked last year at AS because i was very close to the A boundary, and knew i'd done better on the paper after seeing a leaked markscheme. The marking was horrendous and i went up to A at AS overall, getting the £39 pound back. The main reason for getting a remark was because it helped tremendously with my UCAS APP.

If i were you, from looking at your grades I wouldn't bother wasting £39 getting it remarked and just resit it and nail it to get 100 UMS (which it looks like your more than capable of) as your only in year 11, so you've got all of next year before you apply for uni, rather than just going up a few marks if there was some dodgy marking.

Anyways, you should be able to get the new A* grade in maths for sure at A Level, wish it was available for me as I would have got it in maths and further maths. I didn't post my UMS's earlier so i'll post 'em now.

OCR A2 Maths (All out of 100)
C1 - 94, C2 - 88, C3 - 89, C4 - 99, D1 - 85, S1 - 94. Total 549/600 - A

AQA A2 Accounting (All out of 100)
ACC2 - 97, ACC3 - 100, ACC4 - 86, ACC5 - 92, ACC6 - 84, ACC7 - 84. Total 543/600 - A

Anyways, you should be able to get the new A* grade in maths for sure at A Level, wish it was available for me as I would have got it in maths and further maths. I didn't post my UMS's earlier so i'll post 'em now.

does anyone feel really bad when they do well? like when my mates got BCDU for example and I got AAAB I don't know what to say to them... :(

LOL kinda awkward like.

You're so happy you got these really good results and you have to stand there and act like what your mate got was really good as well and comfort them. Lmaoo

yeah but they tell you do you say well done or what? LOL :(

only one person got straight As at my 6th form, although it's one of the worst haaaa

only 3 or 4 got AAAB and I know me and my friend who got this are re-taking the B grade. also, my friends think it's really "snobby" (can't think of the appropriate word) that I'm re-taking on a B.

yeah the majority of my friends got atleast a D or below and some completely revised propa hard and didn't do well. and then i'm like i got ABBB and literally hardly revised and just lazed around during the exams period. sometimes i wanna be all happy about my results but can't because it seems like i'm rubbing it in lmao.

yeah i know what you mean, i told my dad and he was like you can't feel bad about doing well because you worked really hard blah blah blah. my mates are all really happy for me and what not, just when everyone is talking about them i feel bad :P

yeah but say they get CDDD i'm like coooooool cuz that might be what they were expecting and if i say "are you retaking those Ds" they might get really offended, lol.
