S.Darko was pretty much doomed since a three star director decided he wanted to turn the cult classic, Donnie Darko, into a francise by spewing sequel to cash in. From what i read online, nobody was hopeful about the project to the extent there was plans to boycott the set.

For those of you who have not seen Donnie Darko, I'll give you a breif lo-down on the plot.

Troubled boy (Donnie) Sleep walks -> Airplane engine falls through his roof and should have killed him -> Donnie keeps seeing man in bunny costume -> Has therapy -> meets girl -> Learns about timetravel -> girlfriend gets ht by car -> Donnie goes back in time to get hit by the plane engine that he was meant to be hit by.

Lets not look into how Donnie sees the bunny before halloween, watch it yourself and come to your own judgements.

Right so down to S.Darko. S.Darko is about Donnie's little sister Samantha (Daveigh Chase) As a film it is worth a watch. It's an interesting film, but the director/writer really did not know what he was doing. And he admits in the Audio commentary that he's unsure whats going on, so that's a bad start. As i said it is worth a watch as a film, although the cult classic has now become a teen horror flic.

My biggest bone to pick with S.Darko is the ignorance to Donnie Darko. For example, how does Samantha Darko get the "Philosophy of Time Travel" book that donnie had in the original. Donnie went back in time and died before he got the book. Why does samantha have it now?

Even with Donnie Darko being about time travel, you left the cinema a little confused but happy with an understandable narative. With S.Darko you leave thinking "What the F*%$ just happened". The ending was incredibly weak with so many questions unanswered. Some friends suggested to me that they have set up for another sequel, forming a trilogy. Would be good because the writers need to answer such questions, but the way it was left, without spoling too much, is just a repeat of the second half of the narative. Possibly alien-related meteors coming down, some kind of disgusting flesh eating rash spread from meteors. I was not happy with how this was problem was faced, by going back in time and starting it again but to a different person.

At the end of the day, sure it's worth a watch, but I'd suggest watching it as S.Darko NOT as Donnie Darko 2, otherwise you're setting yourself up for dissapointment.
