View Full Version : Got hit in the face with a cricket bat.
Title says it all. Had to go to hospital for three stitches and now i have a big bruise just above my eye. The bruise is really inflamed and sore. Any suggestions to make it go away?

Never put ice on a bruise, bruises are lack of blood flow and clotting, reducing the blood flow with ice will make it so much worse.
If you've can get a picture it would be easier for me to help you. :)
First, kick the person who did this to you in the face
Then put a lampshade on your head so you cant prod it
then take some ibprufen or something to help ease the pain, and if your worried about your appearance put foundation on it :)

Yeah ice is probably not a good idea. Try putting warm moist towels on your bruise a couple times each day to help the blood flow/help it heal faster.

Ice is fine to use in the first instance but no longer.
I have some advice but unfortunatly the first bit is rather painful. Massaging a bruised area will increase blood flow. It'll be extremely painful, yes, but regular massaging of the bruised area will help the blood flow more freely thus clearing the bruise up.
Also try Arnika Gel. It's cheap and it's herbal and it works quite well.

Ouch! Nothing you can do to make it go away, unless you wear make up maybe it will hide it a bit.

Try using a combination of cold and hot cloths on the bruise, alternating between the two. First, use a hot cloth on the bruise for a few minutes. Switch to a cold cloth soaked in cold water. Keep this up for thirty minutes!
You can try Bromelain:
Take 250-500 mg. of Bromelian between each meal throughout the day until your bruise heals. Bromelian supplements work by helping to digest the proteins that causes pain and swelling. This will help keep the bruise from swelling more and from becoming more painful.

Was about to post this. Take it easy with the Bromelain however, it may make you feel very light headed, which isn't good with a head injury.

ibuprofen is my suggestion. Its pretty effective at reducing swelling (what its primary purpose actually is, although now days its know more for its painkilling properties)
Also, hitting someone with a cricket bat? thats just not cricket! *unable to resist*

Ibuprofen as suggested already.
Surely, the hospital told you what to do or what not to do? :S

Have you got one massive bruise on your head now :P?
Let us know how you got on.
Btw, did you have any form of concussion?
Ice on the bruise, but it's not permanent anyway. I'd show it off while you got it :) I would. They only last like 2 weeks do black eyes anyway, or what you've got.

when i got assaulted i had a huge inflamed black eye, dunno if its just a local remedy but if you put butter/magerine on it it helps it go down, i also used a cloth with ice in it directly after it happen.
i still had it for about 2 weeks like.
Umm... The title made me laugh I'll be honest. :P:P But, the rest didnt...
There's some good advice in this thread, what I'd do is go to tesco's and buy everything to do with bruises go home and try them :P:P But im crap at advice sorry ;P

For your blood shot eye!:
Remove a package of vegetables from your freezer and place them over the outer surface of your eyelids with your eyes closed. It's easiest to lie down for fifteen minutes and allow the cold to have its effect. The cold will not only make your irritated eyes feel better, it will also shrink the irritated blood vessels making them appear less red.
Also the more expencive option:
Artificial tears are a good choice for treating bloodshot eyes since they moisten the mucous membranes of the eyes. Stay away from the popular eye drops that claim to “get the red out” since they can dry out the mucous membranes worsening the problem.
Thanks for the advice again, lots of good tips.
Ty for all help
