I'm going away soon, and need to work pretty much anywhere in the world.

My budget is £250 (Will jump to £300).

I won't be using it a lot, mainly when I'm away from home.

I will be using it go on the internet, and creating word documents as well has powerpoint presentations.

Could anyone guide me to a decent laptop to use?
A good spec, as well as cheap and reliable (if possible).
I was looking at: http://www.pcworld.co.uk/martprd/store/pcw_page.jsp?BV_SessionID=@@@@0845661469.124707451 9@@@@&BV_EngineID=ccceadehkdelhfgcflgceggdhhmdgml.0&page=Product&fm=null&sm=null&tm=null&sku=206076&category_oid=-35054 but I'm not too sure.
+Rep to good finds

Thanks in advance,
Sam

PC World is a rip off if you ask me. If you want a great deal for your money, ask a computer wizard to build you a Laptop.

Could they pick up parts cheaply and build a good one for under £300? Or does that vary.

PC World is a joke for prices. They don't really know much about Customer Services, they just try and give you bonuses packets to make offers more attractive. e.g. Norton, Symantec; which in my eyes is a virus anyway.

So I had a look around at some sites and thought this might suit you:
• HP 550 NA948EA#ABU
• Intel® Celeron® M 550 Processor / 2.0 GHz
• 1 GB RAM
• 160 GB HDD
• DVDRW
• 15.4 INCH
• Vista® Home Basic http://www.technoworld.com/stockimagesx80/54199.jpg (http://www.technoworld.com/HP_550_NA948EA_ABU/54199/product.aspx)
was : £ 405.00 http://www.technoworld.com/images/now_img.gif £ 286.35This ends at 31st of July.

Just to help out a little, hope it does!

You can't really "build" a laptop as such, and they are very expensive.

Get a Dell and customize it, then you have a years support too, or if you can stretch, get a Mac, very solid and reliable.

I would but the thing is I wouldn't use it, as I would you my main PC at home.

This would only be used a few months a year.

Get a netbook, it fits exactly the description you gave. The new EEE PC is supposed to be rated quite highly.

I have also found these two on eBuyer, but unsure of which is best.

Which one's better? What's the difference? LOL

Thanks again. :)

A little above your budget but well worth it, when your on the move and not likely to always have a power supply, having 9.5 hours of battery life is likely to come in handy

Quickly viewing can only find the white one, also comes in black: http://www.ebuyer.com/product/159305

Its 308£, but with that you get a nice light portable laptop, that can do all the spreadsheets, powerpoints, word docs, photos, music and interneting you want (wireless n networking) + it comes with that huge battery . (160gb hdd gives you plenty of disk space too)

For traveling i think its a much better suited bit of kit than a standard bulky laptop with a battery that'll bearly manage 2 hours :p EEEPC 1000HE ftw :D

I'm about to order a laptop from ebuyer.

If I want to return goods back such as a fault do I have to send it to them physically, or do they come and collect it? It doesn't say anywhere on the site what they do which is really annoying!!

Usually they will give you an address to ship it back to, or they will collect it (this is going by other companies too, for e.g. Dell would collect the laptop but Novatech would get you to send it back to them).
