I don't find a story about some boy and his magic wand fighting evil particulary an original idea:(

I dont see any other franchise of a story like that grossing over 2bn in box office sales and the entire franchise excluding box sales worth 10bn. Please, proove me wrong. Cant really but that much of an un original idea.

Woo, me too jassie :D

I'll admit it's done well for itself but the idea is something a three year old could come up with

of course i am
not picked a date yet but maybe a few days after so it's died down a bit lol

and as if a three a year old could think up that cleverly, just how everything all links together from the previous films and books is genius.

I think everyone at one point has had that idea. Not many of us have turned it into a book earning our self 100's of millions.

Woo Jen, I now right, and I love how as they get older the story thickens and gets darker

Star Wars and James Bond are bigger franchises. The idea in itself is unoriginal, of course, but it is the individual stories where the originality shines. Though I've only seen the first and have no intention of seeing the others. Wizardry isn't my thing.

Porter, worlds largest film francise outselling bond and star wars.

That's why it's the only reason it's made millions lol, if someone done a similar film it would fail

Oh, I did not realise that it had overtaken them. Well, no matter how much the last two Potter films make, Bond will prevail probably until the end of time as there seems to be no end to the amount of films that will be produced.

JK Rowlling is reported to worth 500m, about the same as one of the films. They have made like 2.5b in 5 films. Star wars had 6 and made less, Bond had 22 and made less.

+ I am still waiting for any other books/films which make Harry potter totally un original.

I don't know if any books out there are like the same as HP but the idea is so easily made up which i'm surprised has managed to get all this money

The concept is unoriginal, the stories aren't.

With all due respect, you can't take perfectly in account the first three Star Wars film and about the first 15 Bond films because of inflation, but mainly because of the difference in amount of cinemas and audience. For example, back in 1975, Jaws was the first ever film to crack the 100 million mark. Look at that figure today.

A secret agent killing people isnt easy to think up either?
So, thinking up of people flying through space killing things isnt easy to think of either? :S

They're not really as easy as Harry Potter

The wizard concept is unorginial but if you actually read the books or watch the movies you'll realise they're very different from other wizard stories.

Secret Agent is less original than a wizard school, I'd say.

Haha, again, I'm not taking anything away from Harry Potter, I'm just being realistic. Yes, very successful films, but I've said it's a very unoriginal concept, because it is, but that's the concept, the stories within the Harry Potter universe are where the originality is. As far as Star Wars goes, when A New Hope opened, it was considered to be one of the most groundbreaking films in history - back in the late 1970s, that particular concept was very original indeed - people had seen nothing like it before. It's all to do with the changing of the times :)

I'll admit the plot of Harry Potter is good
