Activision has announced a high launch price for Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 2 as publishers react to growing cost pressures.
The company has confirmed that the highly-anticipated first-person-shooter will carry a RRP of £54.99 when it is released this November.
The follows suggestions that consumers will have to pay much more to purchase many of the major releases in the fourth quarter of 2009, primarily because high development costs and unfavourable currency fluctuations are putting greater pressure on the margins of publishers.
Speaking to MCV, THQ's executive vice president of worldwide publishing Ian Curran said: "Exchange rates between the euro and the pound are making it very difficult for publishers to show an acceptable operating margin in the UK.
"You can't continue to trade as normal when the biggest territory in Europe has seen cost of goods increase by 30% due to the strengthening of the euro. Publishers somehow need to offset this drastic increase in costs. I'm not surprised to see the [Modern Warfare 2] SRP go up and I feel this will continue across more key titles."
Curran also said that take-up of next generation games is currently "slower than expected and therefore the opportunity to sell more units is limited".
He added: "The increase in cost of goods due to the weak pound has added to this burden, and therefore something has to happen to ensure publishers’ return on their investment."More than likely the Hardenered edition will be £80 and the Prestige will be over £100... absolute lies in my opinion. Every other game coming out in the period is retailing for £40. I think it's just to squeeze money out of us, as Activision already do, by increasing the price.

No games policy is you pay what it was when you order, if the price went down to £30 for whatever reason but went back up you pay £30 even if it's at £55, I suggest pre-ordering as soon as possible if you wanna keep it under £55. xD
I'll just wait till hardened edition pops up on it.

Should the price be reduced you will be charged the lower price at the time of your order being dispatched. Should the price increase - you will not pay any more! Money is taken just prior to release.
Dont cry about it. You guys pay less for every other new game than americans so I think this is just fair. We pay $60 USD you guys pay the equivalent of $56 USD. So you pay less.

My teeth are nice and quite aligned and shizzle compared to alot of people. Plus those don't really work with simon cowells white teeth... Lolzorz.
Tea is a bit ;l coz loads of communities have tea, like alot of asian things and crumpets are nice so thats ur loss.

Ah, I just saw the orlando sentinental, so I figured it was a newspaper article. Yeah 64% is terrible but you cant really group 100% of people in a group where only 64% are fat.

What I'm finding strange is there is no media outrage, no formal complaints (other than the fans, who haven't got a say in the end)... seems that everyone has an extra £15 in their banks. £55 is a lot of money when you think about it, a book costs £10, a DVD costs £20 and a game costs £40.

For the Xbox 360 the vast majority of games are RRP £49.99 yet you can nearly always buy them for £10 cheaper. For the PS2 the majority of games were £39.99 but you were able to buy them all for £10 cheaper. This'll just be the same, the common price for the game will be £45.
I think it's a complete scam tbh and although I'm going to buy it anyway I've lost all respect for Activision.

I'd hate it if that happened to me. Seriously, you're Scottish and I'm English. If they can't tell the difference between the two they shouldn't be let out in public, especially when they assume Scotland is in England :/ Surely the accent is a giveaway too, assuming you were born and bred in Scotland? :P I'm sure Americans know the difference between the two... :/
Americans are terrible, when my brother's girlfriend went there, Americans were asking her if she knew people in England, not realising England is a huge place with millions of people. This was in Florida I think :/
Anyway, back on topic :P People will still pay that price anyway. There was a game out not so long ago that was considered a rip off, yet people still bought it. I might be getting muddled up with that Band game though.
