Could anyone give me a step by step tut on how to change my Ip?

I will give a £10 amazon uk voucher to the person who provides me the best/working tut.

Things you should know.

Using a Linux OS - Asus eee pc

Sorry if wrong section, please move if so.

Depends if you've got a static IP or not I think, try restart your router that may give you a different IP. If not I don't know how you can change your IP so I guess just use a proxy? :P

You need to change your MAC address, go into your routers config page and change the last digit of it.

If you don't know how to log into your router go to run type cmd then type ipconfig /all and hit enter, find your default gateway (192.168.0.0) should look like that, then just log into your router.

If you don't know the login try Google "Belkin Login Details" etc.

If not, login to your router's area.

D-Link:

Click on 'Advanced', under 'Manual ADSL Connection Setup' select 'Dynamic IP Address' the default should be: PPPoE/PPPoA
This is pretty much the same with all routers. Just look for the 'Dynamic IP' mode.
- Tell me what your router is, and I'll come up with something.

Using DHCP and i don't have a router, it's a cable modem.

Hmm how would i access the page? My ISP - Virgin Media if this helps.

You could contact your ISP. They would tell you everything, they could even do it for you.

By the way are you on cable internet?

Hmm i think that's probably the best solution.

Can you not just cut the power for 2 minutes then plug the modem back in?

Virgin media very rarely change your IP address. I have found it only changes when they are doing system maintenance and everybody's IP is reset.

Changing the mac address of the modem is the only thing I can suggest. Other than that you're just going to have to cope.

Ye i've tried asking them to change my IP a few times but they have been making up excuses on why they can't change it.

Hmm i think i've changed it, plug everything out of the modem waited for 5 minutes plug it back in, got a Ip coming up 80........ and i'm sure i had 84...... so I'll do it again and see what happens.

Thanks for you help.

Go to a quick website which tells you your current ip address such as this one (http://www.whatsmyip.org/) and then restart your router/modem. Once your router/modem is fully restarted and back online in however many seconds or minutes it takes then refresh that page. If the ip address it gives you changes then viola! Its as simple as that and something I do all the time.

If it doesn't work try turning off your router/modem for more than 30 seconds before restarting it to make sure the connection to your isp times out first, normally you wouldn't have to do this though.

If your ip still doesn't change this means you have a static ip address. The only way to get around this would be to use a proxy if you want to use another ip.

Enjoy! - Dan.

I imagine he'll be using a Scientific Atlanta (Cisco) Cable Modem 2100 if that remotely helps anyone.
