View Full Version : Habbo Wiki?

I didn't post this in 'Ideas' because it's not an idea for Habbo to do so I didn't think it would be correct?
I was just thinking, with all the fansites that have been around, I wouldn't be surprised if there was a Habbo version of Wikipedia. So I did a Google search and came accross Habbopedia. No offence to whoever runs it, but it's not even worth making a link here, from what I can tell :P (for example, it doesn't have a page for Callie or Jibbi and says Lost_Witness is current UK manager). It's not really set out like Wikipedia properly anyway.
Anyway, I reckon something like Habborator would be able to do a really good job of this. They'd probably do it in their own style however, which would be cool.
I don't know what it might be called.. maybe Duckipedia or something lol? For a realy good example of what I mean, check out the Pokémon one: Bulbapedia (http://bulbapedia.bulbagarden.net/wiki/Main_Page). That has like every fact about Pokémon and the games, it's fantastic. I think a Habbo version would be awesome.
What does everyone else think? :)
Edit: I found (a Danish?) one which looks good: http://www.habbopedia.de/index.php/Hauptseite

This could be something Habbox.com could expand on in the future, IMO.
I played another game (which closed), but there was a page for every aspect of the game. What furniture was avaliable, which was retired, how much it cost in credits, how it was obtainable, etc.
EVERYTHING about the game was there, and I think it would be interesting for Habbo to have one too. The Habbox rare values could be incorporated into this somehow too...
Good idea.

It wouldn't look good or unique if Habbox did it though. They'd probably just setup another joomla site :P
I think Habborator would do a great job doing it.

This is a little niche which a major fansite could work on and if done right could be huge. I'd like to see Habbox try this sort of thing, perhaps someone could make a thread on it in Habbox Feedback and get some comments on what people think about Habbox doing it.

That would be ok. Habbox already has its own kind-of habbopedia but thats just fr the UK and would need to be extended dramatically.
Its a good idea but would take years to collate all the correct information. It would have to be like a UK fansite, then maybe america, canadian, australian etc. Untill it as all hotels.
Its a nice idea, not many willing to take on the task though.

It would be like Wikipedia and all Wiki sites; where users can create/edit pages themselves. And there would obviously be Mods to supervise this :).

Thanks :). Was that Neopets you're talking about lol? I remember making an account on that just because people used to always trade Habbo for it :P.

I agree entirely :).
And it is a niche Jake, I just wish I had the capabilities to set this up myself :(.

I might try it after something else I'm doing:D
But do it like the old Habbo Knowledge page which wasn't part of joomla so we can make it sexy. and it can replace the habbo knowledge page we have now which i hate

No harm in trying. I'd happily help in parts although I wouldn't be allowed to do anything official, I would happily write things up should anything like this go ahead. Especially to pass my time throughout the summer :P

Me too. Although as Joe said, it's far too big a task for a just few people to take on. The only way for it to be successful is if it's done like a Wiki page whereby anyone can contribute.

I'm not sure if we'd set up a usersystem for people to use, or just have it so they can send in certain bits of information that we'll then add. I'll discuss it with people later :)

Habbox would never implement it so anyone could contribute. They might have a function where it has to be approved first but then who would want to read through the vast amounts of information. Half the staff probably wouldn't know if it was true or not anyway.

The one I used and helped set up was for Disney's online game: VMK. It was a game used to draw people into their theme parks and generally promote the company more. It was an amazing game, just wished it stayed open longer than 3 years :P.
The program they used was simply WikiMedia. You can set up the members system yourself - taking in editors to edit specific pages, and admins / moderators to oversee everything. The forum that set it up had a specific usergroup on the site. You'd just put in a good reason why you wanted to edit it, and if you were generally trustworthy they'd let you edit specific parts. Of course, by using WikiMedia it's easy to restore any information if it's deleted - intentionally or not.

Yeah I don't think Habbox should do it tbh.
Either Habborator should do it in their style or someone should just start a fresh in the Wiki style.

Oh, sounds cool. I'll look into this WikiMedia :).
Edit: I found some information:
http://www.wikihow.com/Start-a-Wiki
and the steps to actually start a Wiki:
http://www.wikia.com/wiki/Start_a_new_Wikia
I'm interested in persueing if anyone else is? I wouldn't have the website experieince to set it up by myself :P.
Edit: this sounds even better. You download the programme that powers Wikipedia so you can set up your own completely (the other link shows you how to make one that has ".wikia" at the end of your URL, so this ie better).
