Well I seen this on a forum some where and I liked it allot
www.cometchat.com
It puts a chat bar at bottom like on facebook you add friends on the forum and then you can chat to them
What do you guys think there is also a demo on www.cometchat.com/demo

my friend runs a fansite that uses this.
i love it.
also, it doesn't take away from the amount of posting either. people use the im client for general one-to-one chit chat and the forum for group discussion on various topics.

They spent like loads on a chat system which is at the bottom of the forum, and no-one uses it. I can't see how this would be any more popular?

what they spent money on is a chat room, this is an im client. :)

There's another system like that called meebo, which I think looks better graphically
nobody would really use it i guess, everyone on the forum i want to speak to really are on my msn, or u can pm them or user message. theres not much of a need for it.
if they did use that then i guess they could have it instead of chat

Hxf wasted money on that chat system yes and I never see no one use it because its rubbish no offence should be removed from the forum its a waste of space.

Yes this is a Instant messaging system on the forum and its really easy to use also has a "bad word" filter so can be used for younger views of the forum

I can still see it ending up the same way, everyone uses it for about a day and then it turns into a desert.
If people on the forum are that close to chat 1-1, don't they use MSN or something?

Well its a alternative to giving out your msn
But I think it will catch on because I personally will use it if it gets added.
Because some people don't like giving out there messengers and all you need to do would be "add friend" on the forum and start chatting away. I don't see nothing bad about this it cant be as bad as the flash chat system thingy

I don't want people annoying me, I dislike PMs that aren't of any importance as it is. If they were to implement the friends thing and only those friends could talk to you then yeah sure it'd be good. However, I know the current chat and the proposed chat are different there is still going to be the mentality that chats = fail which is fair enough. It'd be quite a good little feature.
I know you said it didn't affect posting on the forum you mentioned but it might on here which would lead to less topics being posted on HxF which in time would lead to less users as there wouldn't be as much topics that interest them leading to boredom and what not. So really it could be negative for HxF to add such a feature.
It could go either way. However, I doubt it'll be added because it's not really that beneficial because I don't think it'll make anyone enjoy the forum any more than they do already - if I want to talk to a member away from HxF I will ask for their MSN. That doesn't happen much. A forum is for chatting anyway so I don't see why I'd need to chat to anyone via an integrated chat.
So in my opinion I don't think it's worth the hassle or time when it won't give anything back. Just my two cents.
Took me like 10min to see what it was
But yeah its cool, doubt it will be used.

But it is on the interface
Instead of sending pm after pm and then deleting pm's to make space etc
It can be done with one click and its use friendly. The flash chat we got at the moment if people want to talk and don't have msn they would have to go to user settings find the flash chat box tick it then have the horrid chat box at the bottom of the forum just to talk to some one. Where with this it can be done via one click.
Not every one has msn If I wanted to talk to some one on habboxforum I think that would be a good chat script to add. It would save me some time hunting though my 470 contacts and half the time they got msn plus so searching for some one is a pain in the ass.
Anyways its your personal comment and we all got are views xox

The private messaging function has served this forum well for years. There are no problems with it. It's not really hard to delete PMs - I often delete unread ones - they don't interest me much like I wouldn't be interested in random people talking to me on the chat. I don't want to talk to them.
I don't think you can use the argument "not everyone has msn". I know not everyone in the 6.6 billion population accesses MSN messenger but I would be very confident in saying the vast majority of this forum have used MSN at some stage in their lives. Maybe they don't like adding people who they don't know in real life, that's their perogative.
However, those who don't want to add online people you can still talk to them easily through the PM service even if it does take a huge 5 seconds more than using a chat system. That's not really going to swing my opinion on the matter, it won't even come close to doing so.
Also, I think by adding one you're taking away the fundamental purpose of this forum. To chat and provoke discussion. Adding one will lead to less activity which like I mentioned before hand will lead to negative consquences in the short and long term for Habbox.
I appreciate your argument and can see what you're saying. However, I don't think one should be added for the above reasons in this post and my other.

I'm not really sure how this works, do you mean exactly like on facebook? I always appear offline on chat 'cause I get annoyed with people talking to me :( I don't even think the friend feature is ever used because it's pointless and I doubt people would start adding others as friends just to use the chat when they could easily, like Jake said, pm them. If you could appear offline on it that'd be good cause I wouldn't want it :P
Just like the chat that used to be used (very rarely, this IM will probably turn out the same..) it would be really hard to monitor what the users were saying on these chats, it could be used to bully or break any kind of rules I guess. The chat failed so I can't really see this happening, infact I'd rather the chat because it meant you could talk to many people rather than just the one but yeah that was a failure.
I wouldn't really mind aslong as I could appear offline on it :)

If you look on the demo you can appear offline :)
It's a good idea but also very pointless.
If I want to have a 1 on 1 with someone, I'd post on their profile page.
They'd then get the notification and reply, simple really.

yeah, two really good points from jen and josh too.
we have profiles for 1v1 chats
rule breaking
I think the negatives out weight the positives for introducing such a chat.

The server would probably collapse, we don't have a shoutbox because it's too resource intensive, and this would be the same but worse I imagine.

I like this idea, looks like a big task though.
As already said, if you wanna talk to someone 1-1 just ask for their msn.
Also you could always PM/ leave vistor messages :O
Aww wow, that would be so good to have :D I'd love it.
The chat thing we have now is too big and out of place tbh, you also have to enter it the chat room etc to talk, and you can only talk to people that are in the chat too.
With this you can talk to all your friends or all members of the forum with ease without them having to enter the chat, but only be online.
I could see this being really popular :).
May I also add, if you wish to talk to someone 1 on 1, suggesting giving out your msn isn't exactly ideal, because firstly it can be a safety threat, as i've found out in the past, and it can also be effort aswell. It wouldn't ruin the forum or take up any pointless space having the chat. It can only be a good thing really.

Shoutbox's have changed since Habbox had one, they are still really bad for bandwidth but they are starting to develop better, like some allow you to have to manually refresh to see whats happning, some make you "inactive" on the shoutbox untill you click "I AM ACTIVE". I really think Habbox should consider again, ALTHOUGH with Habbox's population the shoutbox would proberly be over filled ect...
Maybe a shoutbox for a certain user group like the sapphire usergroup ectt?

I'd hate to see a shoutbox on HxF. They are OK for smaller more community based forums. I know loads of bigger forums have them but I don't think it'd bring anything to HxF. In fact, it'd probably do the opposite and take things away.

TBF it is only like 40-50 quid plus upgrades for a year which is pretty cheap compared to the chatbox they first bought. I like it myself...
Oh wait, you have to buy a single license and then the unbranded license, yowch that's pricey actually. For what its worth, it'd be nice on social networks but for HabboxForum it may not be needed. I think it's a cool little thing like, but yeah... ouch.

Why have a chat system though if we have a) A forum (big one at that) and b) IM clients which I know people on this forum contact each other by (I don't personally).
If we had a shoutbox at the top, noone would be able to read anything as too many people would be posting at once and noone would get a reply tbh, lol.
