England footballer Steven Gerrard "totally lost it" and hit a man "with the style and speed of a professional boxer" during a bar brawl over music, a court has heard.

http://news.sky.com/sky-news/content/StaticFile/jpg/2009/Jul/Week3/15341715.jpg Steven Gerrard denies the charge

The Liverpool captain allegedly launched the assault on businessman Marcus McGee after the victim refused to hand over control of a CD player.
The 29-year-old star was with friends at the Lounge Inn, in Southport, Merseyside, in the early hours of December 29 when his party clashed with McGee, a member of another group.
Gerrard is on trial accused of affray after the clash left one man needing hospital treatment.
David Turner QC, prosecuting, told Liverpool Crown Court that Gerrard asked McGee for a card controlling the CD player, saying: "Here y'are lad. Give me that lad."

Mr Turner said: "Mr McGee took offence at his attitude and the expression "lad" and he refused.
"Not many people on Merseyside, or indeed anywhere else, would refuse a request from Steven Gerrard but Mr McGee did.
"There can be no doubt that this refusal astounded Steven Gerrard.
"He walked away back to his party but CCTV shows how much his mood had changed.
"He was no longer the centre of that high spirited party.
"He was clearly walking around pondering, musing over what had happened - about the man who said 'no' to Steven Gerrard."
After about six minutes Gerrard returned to the victim who was sitting alone at the bar and allegedly confronted him with the words: "Who the **** do you think you are?"
Mr McGee, who was not a DJ but was in charge of music for the night, stood up to Gerrard, Mr Turner said.
The pair were head to head, he said, "in the sort of hostile confrontation that is often seen between professional footballers".

6 people have already pleaded guilty to the attack leaving Gerrard to fight it alone.

ooh CCTV doesnt lie Mr Gerrard

Some idiot footballers think that they can get whatever they want whenever they want just because they are famous.

Shove them in the jail for a couple of weeks and they will learn their lesson.

That wasn't the judge it was the lawyer for the prosecution I think anyway.

I've seen a video and it shows Gerrard hitting the guy. Might not be Gerrard though. He shouldn't be treated any differently for being a footballer.

gerrard obviously hit him or his friends wouldn't have held him back

Looks like Stevie beat the crap out of him after the dude got elbowed. Thugs. Shove him in jail for 6 months and stop his pay.

LuketheDuke
21-07-2009, 06:13 PM
Stevie's mate should get a hefty fine for that elbow but as for him just a small fine. I see much worse go on at nightclubs without anyone getting arrested and that, only high profile because Gerrard's famous and the bloke who got hit is gonna milk this as much as possible.

Should be treated how anyone else would be treated?

Really all that would happen really is police would have a few words.. Would not get done for AGH as he really did no damage to the other person.

This was the worst thing he could have done after the previous attack.

Agreed.

If it was anyone else, it wouldnt have even got to court.

These things happen multiple times every night.

There tryna make a example of him.

There tryna make a example of him.Do you not know anything about the law? There is solid evidence that Gerrard beat the crap out of that guy after he got elbowed. Thats GBH right there. If there is evidence of a crime and the victim chooses to press charges, the offender in question would be prosecuted to the full extent of the law and rightly so. Just because Stevie G happens to play for Liverpool doesn't mean a thing. I hope he goes down for a month or so. These footballers need to learn they are nothing special.

I bet the guy has been offered a fat sum of money to not press charges though.

Jack.Lfc
22-07-2009, 07:38 PM
Little ****** things like that dont usually go to court, ive seen worse.

So why was the assault charge dropped mr.

StefanWolves
22-07-2009, 09:34 PM
TBH I've seen on Road Wars people get away with this - the cops see a drug deal take place, the guys with the drugs walk off, police follow them, police go to grab them, and then the guys with drugs swallow it, in front of their face and the camera, but once it is down his throat the police can't prove anything, they can't prove that the guy had drugs, even though they saw him swallow it/filmed on camera, that's how gay this countries laws are, people murder people and only serve 7 years in prison, because the police/juries waste their time on crap like this.

Like someone else said, this probably happens in nightclubs all the time but because he's famous its been blown out of proportion by the media.

And if Joey Barton has got away with everything he's done then i think Gerrard will probably get a fine and/or community service

People just want him in trouble because of who he is.

It's all well and good blaming it on the fact hes famous and saying if he was a normal person it wouldn't go to court, but as Liverpool's emblem, and England's star player he should have more responsibilty. Kids look up to him. And now instead of nicking tyres, the scouse kids will be beating up manc DJs. And imagine how many United fans now snort because of their hero Rio doing it. Or do whatever United players do to girls at the christmas party... Anyway, point is, Gerrard needs to take more responsibility as a role model and shouldn't be going out and getting "7/10" drunk anyway. He's a professional athlete for god's sake.

i know he should know his boundaries as he is a role model, but every ones human, everyone makes mistakes, and tbh Gerrard is one of the more well behaved footballers you will EVER meet, i mean look at A.Cole, cheating on Cheryl Cole? (like *** why would you do that) and look at R.Ferdinand? snorting drugs.

don't hold one petty little night club brawl against someone that is more or less one of the best role models that english football has. (besides Beckham, IMO.)

eh eh? Giggs is like 35 or something, I dno and you never hear about him out drinking, getting silly drunk, snorting silly things or doing silly people. He's a real profesional and knows theres plenty of time for that when he retires. (:P) Same can be said about alot of footballers really. Even Terry, from an england persepctive.

He acted in self-defence because he thought the guy was going to hit him. Does that mean next time Gerrard does a bad tackle, he's going to get up and headbutt the guy incase the guy retaliates?

So beating up a guy is now classed as having fun with your mates?
No one says don't go out and have fun in the non-violent way, but use your brains and behave.

It's obvious you have no social life and do not go out clubbing, because crap like this happens hundreds of times EVERY night, and nothing happens to them, they NEVER get sent down, it's just because he's famous and they're using him for publicity to show what will happen if any younger people do this sort of stuff (which always results in nothing happening, just a fine or community service), so shuv your morales where the sun don't shine. ;)
