Skyride Fire at Alton Towers

Part of a ride at Alton Towers theme park has been destroyed by fire.

Firefighters were called to tackle flames at the Cloud Cuckoo Land cable car station on the Skyride.

Six fire engines were sent to the Staffordshire attraction at 2230 BST on Tuesday and the fire was brought under control about four hours later.

The ride was closed at the time and no one was injured. Alton Towers said the ride would not reopen "for the foreseeable future".

In a statement, it said there were no employees or guests present at the time of the blaze and it was "brought under control quickly" by the fire service and park team.

It added the theme park was open, but some areas would have to be fenced off while the fire service investigated the cause.

Assistant area commander Andy Kinsman, from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service, said: "We don't believe at this stage there's anything untoward with the start of the fire.

"However, we've got to now look at CCTV footage and look at the procedures for closing down the station that Alton Towers staff go through."

A cable car base station at the attraction was hit by fire in October 2007.

Up to 50 firefighters were called on that occasion and it took crews most of the night to put it out.

But it only burnt the roof, this completely destroyed it!

It was the Skyride not the Monorail. ;)

It's the cable car, it always breaks down or sets on fire. It's just Alton towers is split in two by like a massive garden/forest thing which takes forever to trek through

I remember when Blackpool Pleasure Beach had an arson attack and The Grand National was ruined and they had to rebuild it and everything :'(

this isnt the first time a fire has started at alton towers.

it happened in nov 2007.

1 of the sky ride bases set alight then.

I hate the skyride, it always stops in the middle when i'm on it and were stuck up there for like1 - 2 hours.

We went yesterday, Rita was closed, didnt see the skyride station that had been set on fire though, there were loads of cordens near rita though... hope it isnt an arson attack, alton towers is in dia need of some new rides though!

I wonder if they can run the cable cars just between two stations instead seeing as it's an ending one, perhaps they could just run between the first and middle one if they rearrange the layout a little, would probably be worth it till the end of the season.

Anyway I got two snaps of what little is left of the cable car station, it's just outside the massive McDonalds (Now Burger King) and the Willy Wonker chocolate factory, consider this an habboxforum exclusive :P
