Why cant i restore my ipod from a default file it just starts downloading a new one.

Default file could of been corrupted, let it download the file and it will restore like new. It might of been because Apple released a tiny bug in iPod touch' and released a new firmware which isn't found by "check for updates". The bug makes you restore.

Android, I think he means the file from the update.

Click "Restore" and follow the instructions. Let it download the file and do what it wants.
