A Forum for name change announcements? [Archive]

When people get a name change it's like making a new account - the majority of people don't know who you are anymore. Habbox staff get the privilege of having their name change announced so everyone knows. I think it would be an improvement on Hxf if there was to be a new forum made where the admin that has just changed someones name would create a thread like they do with staff name changes to let us all know about the name change. I'm sure people would appreciate this. :)

i think you also have to remember some people change their names to stop people targeting or bullying them and want to keep it confidential etc. staff get one anyway if users want to tell people they've changed their name, they can make a thread.

Ye, staff name changes are announced because they are important for the community to know who they are and so that they know that on Habbo they arent fakes. Normal members name changes arent as important as no one will be looking for them for events etc in the community.

The welcome/goodbye forum is just as good and I have seen a few threads in there for name changes recently :P

When I first read this I kinda thought it was a stupid idea, but when you stop and think about it it makes a lot of sense. The amount of times someone has changed forum names and i've spent weeks working out whether its a new person or someone who's been around for ages...

I doubt it'll get implemented because it seems like unnecessary work for brandon/yoshi (idk who does it these days) but +rep for the idea!

I would Personally like the main Announcements Forum scrapped and have a:

Staff Updates Announcement forum
Name Change Announcement forum
Development Annoncement forum
Community Announcement forum

Perhaps if the Announcement forum was never posted in, but there could be four sub-forums with the above.

Be better imo!

Habbox Announcements - Staff changes would be posted here
- Community Announcements - Events ect.
- Name Changes Announcements - Name changes.

Development Announcements

Sub forums ftw.

A lot of name changes are made to hide the change in username, if people want they can just put in their signature "Used to be ______"

There are more name changes than announcements probably, so the new forum would be benefiticial and useful.

Every week or even month, post a big list of the name changes over that period of time. Especially for VIPs, as they are ''Very Important Persons' :P

Not everybody wants people to know they have had a name change and so if they wish to notifiy people they can by means of their own. Records are kept as to who is who though.

But what we are getting at is, Bomb-Head bloody posts the changes himself so everyone knows who is who for the public announcements... We just want it moved to another sub forum so it can incease search results and remove the unwanted threads..

Staff name changes have to be public anyway...

I've never had a staff member who wanted to hide their name during their time as staff. Usually staff have places to go when they get bullied, because as it states in our rules we protect our staff since they're told not to retaliate ;)

Nah only staff name changes are. A lot of user name changes are because they want a little bit of a new start (before someone catches them out again) or to avoid bullying etc.

And you can't argue with me on that one because I was in charge of name changes for the longest time so I know from experience :P

I am not referring to hiding anything! I suppose i could have sad nobody cares whether they get an announcement to say they have become Tom from originally **** onto Harry. It was more of a means of not being necessary.

Erm announcements is mostly name changes and staff promotions/demotions/firings/hirings. So announcements is Staff Changes + Big things.

Although I guess it could be seperated but four forums for announcements?

I think it'd be a significant amount of work, I can speak only for myself but I used to dread doing name changes because of the things I had to update, although part of that, the list of VIPs thread is no longer active so its a little bit better :P

However having Community Announcements under there would sort of rend the seperation pointless, cos it'd bump the more important announcements which is why we seperated it in the first place :P

Personally, I think there is no need. If I had a name change, I wouldn't want it announced. For people that do want to tell everyone, it would be easier for them to just put their old name in their signature in bold or something.

There can't be that many name changes now VIP has stopped can there? Does anyone know roughly how many name changes each week (non-staff)?

I don't see how it makes the search easier, you don't even have to put a name in a forum specific search and you can find everything said about them within seconds.

Directly search in that forum only for user 'today' so only name changes thread comes up. Where as with the current setup, if i searched for 'today i would get threads such as..
- Name changes
- Threads that user makes
- Threads that user's name appears in.
But the name changes forum only will only show threads relating to that user name changes..

no he meant, if you searched for example Sammeth. name it would only bring up name changing threads regarding me as the title is always ".:.:.Sammeth.:.:. changes his name to Sammeth."

I believe thats what he was saying anyway.
