What is with the report reputation thread, it seems to just be a place to remove all negative reputation?
If you give someone a legitimate negative rep (for arguing or whatever) chances are extremely high within the next day or so it will be posted in the thread. I think we should be more strict with which ones we remove.
We shouldn't just remove every rep that has been reported.. If its possible who ever removes the rep (Brandon?) should look at what the post says and if it seems legit then it should stay.
Although he probably does already look at what it says :)

Hmm, I've reported the same one twice + its been kept there. They obviously look at it and judge it by what it is. Most -REP on this forum is crap now a days with no real purpose soo.

Hmm, maybe it is just the ones that i give out that seem to be complained about (even if they are deserved :S)??

All -reps are reviewed, if the reputation was removed then there was probably an issue there. If you want a better explanation, you can PM the comment to myself or Brandon and we'll look it over and let you know why it was removed.

okay. I'll take your word for it. It just looks like every negative rep has been removed thats all. But obviously not since the other person said that doesn't happen.

Nah, I agree with you 100%. I -repped someone who had insulted me. His post even got edited by a moderator so surely that's more than a valid reason to -rep yet it was removed. I was going to make a very similar thread to this later today because I've noticed this too.
I +rep posts that are constructive and helpful to me. I -rep posts that are rude and unnecessary. OK, some of mine deserve to be removed, admittedly. However, the thread as of late is basically used for people to get their -rep removed when really some of the -rep that has been removed is valid.
I've already been in contact with MattGarner about this but he told me to PM nvrspk4. I just haven't got around to it yet. I agree with you totally and things need to be reviewed. I can understand how the system is supposed to work, getting revenge and pointless rep removed but at the present time it isn't working like that.
I have 2 thats brandon would not remove because i insulted the person and it was valid.

Just because it's posted in that thread it doesn't necessarily mean it was removed.

That's the problem though Garion. That is generally what is happening. Not always no - but the majority yes. OK, some may be pointless but I know for a fact valid -reps are being removed too.

Ye, if the comment isnt valid or the point on which the rep was given then it does get removed and alot of the time they are left there too.
I remember, I reported a -rep once and at the same time the old admin who dealt with it was Nick- and he removed over 600 rep points from old Alkaz which were invalid, so they do do their jobs :)

its easy to tell though, if u -rep someone and you see them report it and then try to rep them within a week.. You can tell if it has been removed.

Negative reputation should be removed - chances are that if something was -rep worthy then it's infraction worthy deeming that a punishment instead of -rep. -rep just creates negative factor on the forum which is another rule of the forum.
Just my thoughts.

then why have rep at all if we can only give +rep?

Tbh the RRP thread is unfair, hardly anyone reports pointless or invalid +reps so why should pointless or invalid -reps be removed.

i agree. Although i did see ONE person report an invalid positive rep the other day.. Amazing!
everytime i post for -rep , i get like 5 +reps taken away, so i just stopped reporting all toghter, and its -rep anyways who cares...

I reported a pointless/revenge/offensive -rep the other day even though it was grey just for the hell of it, and it got removed along with about 3 of my last +reps :@. So shush Joe :P. (I'd have actually lost 1 rep power if my rep had gone down 1 more point lol).

tempted to -rep you now and you're not meant to report any grey rep because it's pointless so lol owned yourself getting 3 removed. anyway yeah i -repped someone for posting pointlessly loads and he got it removed a few times when they were valid coz it looked like i was just picking on him (just because graham happened to -rep the same post at the same time :@:@)
and msb used to report his +reps lmao that's just coz he wanted to be different tho

yup, for a fact.
PM me these facts.
Its pretty easy to not get a -rep removed if you're giving it for valid reasons.
A difference in opinion can sometimes be a -rep. For example, the Michael Jackson jokes, if I told one and got a -rep for it with them feeling that I was being insensitive, I would expect to keep that as long as it was for my post. However, if you're -repping me because of how you feel about me regardless of my posting, you're treading into murky waters.

lol this thread reminds me, when I was Assistant News Manager around here, I think I got a -rep for "spamming Habbox news" with all my reports :P.

its easy to tell though, if u -rep someone and you see them report it and then try to rep them within a week.. You can tell if it has been removed.
So do you go around repping people you have issued minus rep to within the next few days in order to see if it was removed?
Immenseman
26-07-2009, 11:27 PM
i do, yeah.
Yoshimitsui
26-07-2009, 11:30 PM
Then does that not show a doubt as to whether the initial minus rep was invalid for some reason if you are conscious enough to go checking?
Immenseman
26-07-2009, 11:33 PM
nope. someone laughed at me because my -rep was removed from their account which was valid. ever since i've checked, they've always been removed except once when i had to write a bloody essay.
i've had ones removed where a user has had their post edited for insulting me. i said like "this post is insulting and breaches rules and is aimed at me" or w/e. defo valid else a moderator wouldn't have edited. still removed.
i'll prove this to nvr when i PM him. i made a complaint to matt like last week and he told me to contact nvr, just haven't quite got around to it.
